Just noticed it today with one tab - it had an asterisk after the name
I opened a second copy of the grid but that didnt have one!

So, I was just wondering what that might signify?

Comments

The * means that the grid source or filter has changed and user should refresh the grid. As part of the source bar improvements, this has also been improved

noticed this again lately - the Asterisk (& had to search for meaning).

1) I'm not sure why it shows with this grid - neither source nor filter were changed (not that I could see anyways). Actually I see that every time I open this grid the asterisk is there. I did change the source a while back - but like a couple of weeks ago - surely that shouldnt be relevant anymore?

2) Could mention of it (& what it means) be shown in the tooltip - I'm sure it's a confusing one for many people...

I agree that it's a bit confusing. A refresh symbol would be better. But maybe not possible ?

Or maybe could the Yellow bar appear at the bottom, with a message, and an option to not display it in the future ?

I like the "Yellow bar" for these types of messages as it's not too intrusive, but very visible ?

The * display is a bit buggy.

It is a "standard" Microsoft implemented a long time ago for its development products... it non-intrusive, but perhaps too "technical" in nature

Not really, IMO.
User just has to know it means needs re-fresh
but it's no big deal to me one way or the other

I agree with Jan - it's not a big deal. And it is nice that it's non-intrusive - on the other hand I hadnt seen it (or noticed it anyway) for a long time, and I had to search the forum to find this thread & to see that I had asked about it before(!)
I reckon I will not be alone there, so, at some stage, I think it would be helpful to have something about it in the tooltip as suggested - or maybe something like Armando suggests
