I'm confused about the function of the command Grid | Show outline labels. The # column is displayed as the first column of a grid followed by Item. I would have expected that checking this option would cause the # column to display outline labels. I would think that unchecking it would result in the outline numbers behaving as they did before 22.

Nope. When I tick the option, I now see two identical sets of outline numbers displaying in the # and item columns. This seems redundant to me and not at all the way I would have expected, coming as I do from Ecco.

What do you think Pierre and others?

One additional note. I really don't like the way in which this new feature is implemented (sorry Pierre - I was so happy to get this, but I have to be honest). I see you've removed 21 from the download section. I still have it. There are no other changes you've published between 21 and 22. Is there any risk reverting to this version or should I go back to 19 which is still posted?

No problem going back to 0.9.26PreRel21

What changes would you like to see in outline labels ?

Hi Jon,
I'm not sure I understand.
Would you like me to automatically hide the # column when Show outline labels is checked ? I can.
You can also shrink the # column so small that you would not see it. This will make IQ behave as Ecco, which did not have the # column equivalent...
The idea, is that sometimes it is best to have labels in the # column, sometimes in the tree column (printing being on such case). Perhaps the feature should be renamed...

Yes, I see your point. I'm just confused about having the outline numbers appearing in two places.  If there is a good reason to deviate from Ecco's effective approach, then I would like to understand the benefits. The other source of confusion for me is issuing the command. Either the outline is styled or it is not (new display vs.old display). The command just causes the newly styled outline to appear twice.

Maybe I am being dense (getting over the flu).

OK, how about if the setting was called: Tree column shows outline labels ?
In uncheck, labels shown on the # column as before

Not a bad idea, I think.

Aside from the way the labels are  displayed, what would be useful would be to make these labels conditional -- or something like that.

As in a document not every single paragraph is numbered :  some items are sections titles, others constitute the text body, etc. If the labeling could be set conditionally, one could define a "title" field (and maybe a "body" field, and some other one -- numbered paragraph ? -- depending on the  complexity of the document), apply it to the various "title items", and have the labeling follow the conditions.
