Now that we have a quick way of creating inline item links by typing [[, it occurs me that the same interface (with the pop-up search window) could be adapted to create a quick way to transclude other items, or, in other words, add another item as a child of the current item.
So, with a given item selected (call it "Item1"), I would press a keyboard combination, and the then a dialogue window would pop up where I could immediately start searching for items. I would select the item I want, (call it "Item2"), press return, and then Item2 would be added as a child of Item1. Normally, to achieve this, I would have to find Item2, mark it, and then use Item | Marked Items | Add as Sub-item. The latter method works well, but I'm just thinking it would be a nice time-saver to make it more automatic. Thoughts?

Hi Lucas, Improved copy /…
Hi Lucas,
Good Idea !
Improved copy / paste of the "new" IQ items clipboard format is already on the list. Basically, when you copy items to the clipboard, you'll have the option to paste as a parent / sibling / sub-item. To copy items, there are already many ways, but I'll be adding it to the Related Items / Item Link dialog
FYI, the IQ Items clipboard format is supported by a few UIs, namely Card View. Stay tuned !

Great, that all sounds very useful! I will definitely stay tuned.
I would like to see it…
I would like to see it reversed, if possible.
I spend a lot of time linking ToDo's to contacts.
So in this scenario, I would select the ToDo item "call John Doe", search for my contact "John Doe" and then make "call John Doe" a subitem of my contact "John Doe".
p.s. Where would it end up? As the first or last subitem?
I would like to see it…
I see what you mean. In my scenario, you select ItemA, search for ItemB, and then add ItemB as a subitem of ItemA (e.g., destination item added under selected item). Whereas in viking's scenario, you select ItemA, search for ItemB, and then add ItemA as a subitem of ItemB (e.g., selected item added under destination item).
(Regarding where the subitem ends up, IQ has already answered this question. When you do Item | Marked Items | Add as Sub-item, IQ adds the sub-item as the last subitem.)
What you are talking about…
What you are talking about is 'Backlinks' i.e. What is pointing to this item ?
ConnectedText has backlinks.

Hi Paul !
You may have missed it, but IQ has backlinks (Doc pane > View > Links). In v119:
What viking and Lucas mentioned is to be able to paste an item to be the parent of the current item. That is planned. When pasting an item and selecting IQ Item clipboard format, a dialog will be shown to select where to paste (parent, sibling, child). Coming soon !
