There's a very interesting new thread at donationcoder "The evil of the horizontal scrollbar - and what we can do about it" started by Tranglos (author of KeyNote).
It about interfaces in programmes in particular.

I made a post about how IQ copes with this (locking columns and the Ctrl+Mouse wheel horizontal scrolling)

IQ supports printing of selections:
  1. Selected items: Select items and do an HTML export
  2. Selected items: Use the column filters to filter items and do a Print Preview
  3. Selected text in the HTML pane: Select text >> Print Preview >> As selected on screen

Yup... Easy. For most things printing etc., I now find IQ better than a lot of other apps.
One thing : the various printing dialogs (2, I think ? the ones from ie and another one...) could be "homogenized" to help the user.
But it works...

I think I've mentioned this before but I think print should be <CTRL>+P like the rest of the world; that's all the user should have to consider. After that, user can have choices or paths to printing the correct way based on what has been selected. It's backwards now IMO; i.e. user first selects data to be printed, then has to figure out which print function to use. Confusing, confusing, confusing -- not to put too sharp a point on it.

Simply assign Ctrl-P to Print Preview and you'll be all set!

p.s. The new setup will have it set for you.

Personally, I don't see anything confusing with the printing dialog... I mean, most of the time, before printing, you have at least one selection in the grid... How can IQ know what you want : print the whole grid, or only the selected item(s) ? I actually like the fact that IQ is not trying to guess what I want but lets me choose... but that's me.

It would be nice to have other's input on that one.

(Just a word of caution about Ctrl-p... That's correct for browsers... but MS Word (2003, at least) -- which is probably one of the most widely known/used program out there -- has ctrl-shift-f12 as a shortcut for printing.  Personally that's the shortcut I'm used to... Not saying it's the best though... :)

I dont print much but I think the setup is pretty good -
I have Ctrl+P as Print Preview shortcut in Grid and HTML Pane (Jan, I presume Pierre meant the new version by 'the new setup')

In the grid you're given a choice of what to print including the option to select items and just print them, so if you want you can go back a step and select items. I'm not sure how that could be improved a whole lot...

BTW print preview is currently broken in the HTML pane but will be fixed later today :-)   Print preview broken in HTML pane?
