Pierre, I find the database management dialogs confusing.
For example, if I click repair, IQ immediately pops up a dialog that sez "OK". It can't work that fast...... can it?
Likewise for Compacting. I can't tell when either are working or are finished.

Perhaps you can take a look at these when you get a moment.

Thanks.

If it says OK, then it has done it. Repair is not very long. It is composed of:
  1. Recreates all fields, based on field definitions
  2. Recreates all grids
  3. Check the main parent of all items, repair if necessary
  4. Repair links if needed
  5. Erase HTML pages pointing to about:blank
  6. Instruct JET to do a database repair / compact

Not to be stubborn but
Compact does the same thing
while
backup sez processing & disappears when it is done which makes more sense to me. :-)

Compact is just a DB command in access which Pierre will have called via JET.  If you go into an access DB and do it, it also takes no time if the DB is small or if you've done it recently.
