Hoist, introduced nearly 1 year ago, has been very popular amongst IQUsers. Not surprising, as Hoist allows you to focus on a subset of items, or to see others items.

in v0.9.25B, changes were made to make it both simpler and more powerful (hey! who said you can't have your cake and eat it... )

The options are:
  • Turn Hoist ON / OFF
  • Hoist selected items. Supports multiple hoisted items. Also supports re-hoist (i.e. hoist items from an already hoisted item list)
  • Hoist Up to see all parents of items (new !)
The first 2 are pretty much self-explanatory. The third one behaves in one of two ways:
  • If the grid is not currently hoisted, it will show all parents of currently selected items. (i.e. supports multiple parents per item)
  • If the grid is currently hoisted, each Hoist Up will move up in the item hierarchy. When an item doesn't have a parent, it will be displayed nevertheless.
The UI was simplified too:
  • The main Hoist button displays a dialog to select the action:
    • If Hoist is OFF:

    • If Hoist is ON:

  • The main Hoist button is also a menu to execute each of these 3 functions, so you can customize menus and toolbars with your most frequently used features

Tips and Tricks:

Enjoy !!!

I'm reminded of when I used have trouble giving estimates for jobs (still do) someone was advising me along the lines:
  • estimate your price,
  • add 5% for this possible variation here and
  • 10% for that there and
  • 10% for the other and - then - just add another 10% on top for the hell of it -
and it probably still wont be enough
