Jan, do you mean double-click on an item in the grid?
presumably because it has a link?
What's the link to?

I never double-click items - what does it usually do?
(I see links dont make sense - that would only be a single click - so I crossed out the above)

Don't know the answer Tom. I would have assumed going into edit mode or something like that. I just thought these dialogs were weird &
possibly connected to the problem we both reported in another thread.  I found the first of the two dialogs especially odd. Let's see if Armando or Pierre have
a comment.

EDIT/ okay, but I was wondering why were you double-clicking on an item?

I see what you mean Jan -
that it might be related to the html pane content not opening properly

FWIW trying it out here, it "works" i.e. I dont get any funny messages, and, if there is a link in the item, double-clicking in the # column will open that link - which I never knew :-)

I usually don't double click on items. But when I tried it on one with HTML pane content (double clicked on the item field), it just entered edit mode.
As Tom noticed though, double clicking on the # column when there's a link in the item field opens up whatever is linked (Word , Firefox...)

I really don't know what's happening in your case.

Thanks Tom & Armando. Over the years I've had odd problems that sometimes show up here & no where else and then months later they pop up elsewhere.  I've also had odd problems that never show up anywhere else & Pierre has worked on them with me, creating test  program updates to try which have cured whatever the problem was.

At this point, all I can say is:
if I dbl click on the item I get the can't open file dialog with or w/o the HTML pane present
and I had never tried it until Tom brought it up but
if I dbl click on the # column I get the can't open file dialog whether there is HTML data present or not
That indicates a slight difference of behavior but odd, none the less.

Since Pierre has reverted to the older grid version, we can discount that theory but
I do think there's a problem somewhere & I'm hopeful Pierre will take a little time to focus on it.

And Tom, the only reason I came across this was I wanted to edit an item so I dbl clicked on it as in "select / open" which is a prertty common command

A different test.
I installed another copy of IQ using the installer

I installed to C:/  drive as prescribed by the installer

You will see from the video clip supplied
The first thing I did was to dbl click on an item w HTML data
IQ seemed to behave appropriately, i.e. it entered "edit mode"

Then I clicked on an item that I had clipped from email & the email opened in its own window

In neither case was there a weird dialog about opening file or type of file as before

And
if I select the first item, i.e. the one w HTML data & up arrowed to the eml item, IQ
blanked the HTML pane &
opened the email in a TB window

That seems appropriate too.

Could this problem have something to do with computer "registration"?
