Steps

drag / drop TB email msg from TB msg list onto IQ grid
IQ opens appropriate dialogue to add text & set link details
IQ creates link but clcking on link only opens dialog asking which program to use
selecting TB does nothing

I noticed that IQ creates a FilePath to localTemp folder

I believe this is part of the continuing TB clipping problem that has existed for a while now.

Hi Jan:

I use The Bat, but I think some of the issues are similar. When you drag an email from TB (Thunderbird or The Bat), it creates a temporary file. You noticed that. This is because both programs have one database (mbx or similar) per folder. In other words, your single email message is not in a discreet file, but contained as part of a larger database containing all messages within that folder.

OK.

When you drag the message to IQ, it creates a link  to the file in your temp folder. This is because unlike Ultra Recall (I know, you don't want to think about UR), IQ cannot embed external data. Even UR will behave in the manner you are experiencing unless the email is stored in the database. If Thunderbird behaves like The Bat, your linked file is deleted when you close TB. IQ cannot find or open the non existent email.

A work around (well not really a work around because both programs are doing what they should) is to drag the message to the folder (or sub-folder) containing your IQ file. Then drag that file into IQ.

Does this help?

Sure it helps & thanks for the workaround.  I will try it for permanent email records like for research, etc.. Many of my emails are transient like for monthly bill reminders, etc. After they serve their purpose I dump them. Currently, I am just copying the email content as a workaround.

I used The Bat! for many years & have a lot of respect for the program but one of the reasons I switched to Thunderbird was the ease with which IQ could import an individual email directly into IQ via a "copy to InfoQube" command  based on a TB / Mozilla style extension.  In one step it would... well, I'm sure you know what it did so no need to regurgitate.

But then it SUDDENLY stopped working. As a test, I tried drag / drop to see if that could offer a clue for what was happening.

I assumed that before closing Thunderbird, IQ would at least  find the file since it offers a location in the field properties. But that doesn't work either.

Currently, if I copy to IQ, IQ copies the EML file, dumps it into the "files folder", gives it a unique file name, parses all the information but, the msg body doesn't appear in the HTML pane..

So I think something is broken in the EML transaction & Pierre, either can't reproduce it, or is busy on other stuff & I'm REALLY frustrated that this once convenient option is no longer available <GRRRRRR>

Ha, ha! I like UR and rely on it every day. It is not everyone's cup of tea, and I remember you experiences with them. UR and IQ are complimentary for me. Some involved writing projects had me trying Scrivener, but the Windows version has too many quirks that need fixing (it's at v1.03). So I've re-discovered WhizFolders and am very pleased.

Happy new year to you too.
