I just downloaded the latest beta version of InfoQube and came across a few issues with the UI which I would have expected to work out of the box:
To duplicate these just create a new file with sample data.

1. press ctrl-f, select "Show Details". Type "xxx" without the quotes. Three items are shown. One of them is "SQLNotes supports many types of links Parent-Child..."
and the item name is "This will link to SQLNotes main item". The text in the "Text" column doesn't show xxx. Select all items and select "Show Selected items in Search grid". When you click on "This will link to SQLNotes main item" the HTML pane is blank. Where is the text "xxx" as part of this item ?

2. press ctrl-f. select "Show Details".Type "sub-items". The search results should automatically expand but they don't. Clicking on them one by one expands them but after clicking on the first three or four the screen is full and scrolling with the mouse doesn't work and there are no scroll bars as well. Scrolling with the keyboard doesn't scroll the grid though you can see the grid in the background changing as you press the up-down arrow keys.

3. when resting the mouse on any item in the Welcome grid the popup which appears has a background which is transparent making it very difficult to see since the popup usually appears over other items.

Hi james8games

#1 : this is strange. It seems like there used to be some text in the HTML pane, but it was later probably deleted -- however, the itemHTMLtext field still contains the pure text version of the the HTML content.

Some parts of the sample file are quite old and it could be that something happened to a few of its items (in that case the relation between the itemHTMLtext and the html pane) during the many upgrades IQ underwent through the years.

This is the content that can be found when you enable the itemHTMLtext field to be shown in the search grid and expand it :
SQLNotes supports many types of links
Parent-Child
Items can have any number of sub-items. Sub-items are shown in the grid and in the Properties pane.
Items can have any number of parents. One of these is designated as the main parent. The main parent is shown in the grid when Grid>Context Parent is checked.
Item parents are shown in the Properties pane. Main parent is shown in bold. Full Parent tree can be shown, using the expand buttons.
File links
When you drag-drop files, system fields (FileName, FilePath) are set to link to the file. Double-click on the item to launch the file
in-cell links
Example: www.google.com will launch the default browser and open it with Google
Files, emails, and web addresses embedded in cell text can be launched by double-click on the link text
Hyperlinks (in both in-cell and in rich-text pane)
Hyperlinks can be added. Format is < a xxx>linkText

where xxx can be:1- an itemID
2- a Field/folder enclosed in [ ]
3- a Wikitag. Wikitags are enclosed in { } and entered in the WikiTag field
4- href='AWebAddress'

If the linked item is in the grid, focus is moved to it. Otherwise or if the link returns more than 1 item, the scratchpad grid is opened with the linked item(s).
Examples
This will link to Google page

This will open the Scratch grid with all your contacts displayed
This will open the Scratch grid with all items tagged as projSomiro displayed
This will link to SQLNotes main item
As you can see the xXX string is there.

#2 : Thanks for reporting that. Yes this happen in one case : The scroll bar disappears when "show details" is turned on after the results have already been displayed and the list is short enough to not require the scroll bar to appear.

Quick fix for the moment : playing with the window size restores the scoll bar.

#3 :  Not sure I understand the problem here.  Is it the transparency which is a problem ? Tool tips here are completely opaque. Maybe a setting on your machine make the tool tips transparent ? I'm on windows XP still, so I don't know...

You could always deactivate tool tips (view menu -> Tool Tips.) and activate the notification pane (view->notification pane)

BUG i just discovered (I never use the notification pane) : when it's activated, tool tips appear as deactivated but remain active. They need to be reactivated and deactivated to be truly deactivated. The reverse happens when the notification is deactivated : tool tips appear as activated, but aren't...

Hi Armando,

On point 1 i do see it in the search but not in the actual data and that's the point, that shouldn't happen even if the file is old. In any case, I'll report it if I encounter the issue with my own data.

On point 2, the auto-expansion should happen rather than seeing only a single line and having to click one-by-one.

On point 3, it's about the transparency. I do see a transparent background in the tool tip and I too am using XP SP3. Any idea what setting is required to change this ? In other applications the background is light yellow and opaque with black text. I believe that is the default.

Thanks for the precisions.

#1 : the data is actually there in the itemHTMLText field. Only it doesn't appear in the HTML pane, but only in the field. Now, the reason I spoke about the data being "old" is just because IQ went through several transformations (e.g :  HTML pane's text kept strictly outside or inside the DB, etc.). I was just suggesting that it could be that Pierre didn't bother to look at the sample file's coherence when he made all these changes. Still, I agree that it's weird and It could also be unrelated. He'll have to look at that.

#2 : the reason items aren't fully expanding is only to be able to see more at once and expand only some as needed. If users prefer another behavior, I'm sure it could be changed. You're the first one to mention that.

#3 : I have no idea why it's transparent in your case. I'm not aware about of  any setting that could modify tool tips opacity. Here it's fully opaque and off-white, as you described.

Edit/ NOTE to any new users - I've been using this software for years now (since end 2007) for work and privately. I know it doesnt look good if I say I've lost something in this app, but this is the first time that's happened to me, and I was able to restore the info from a backup - so set up your backups!
 -------------------------------------

I've had some problems with losing html pane content lately. I didnt report them cause I was totally unable to reproduce them, & wasnt really paying attention at the time...
I didnt think of looking in the ItemHTMLtext because it wasnt shown in the properties pane for the items in question.

It seems to be not shown by default in the "All Fields" part of the properties pane either (in the sample file)?
Is there a reason it's hidden?

Anyways, your post Armando inspired me to look for it - it was unfortunately empty, but I did find this irregularity:

note the yellow selected item (which lost it's html content a while back), has empty ItemHTMLText - but still shows 627 in the ItemHTMLWordCount field.

This has happened on two occasions over the last six months or so. The other occasion may have been completely user error (it took me a while to notice it so had no idea what happened).
I restored one from backups - the other - shown above (not user error, I think) was no longer important so I didnt even go to backups.

IIRC, the itemHTMLtext field isn't shown by default because its purpose is mostly to keep a "pure text" version of the HTML pane's content (for searching).
Also, the grid isn't meant to display large amount of text (in one single cell) and it was causing scrolling problems, etc.

As for the wordcount showing a value when (if) the itemHTMLtext is empty, it seems like a bug : When the itemHTMLtext content is deleted (=null) the word count isn't updated (not that it is in other cases though). [Pierre : Something to fix, most probably ].

As for loss of data : I haven't lost anything in the HTML pane for years...
But this is something you should really mention when it happens to you, even if you aren't sure of what happened exactly.

Do you think you lost MHT content (clipped from the web) or was it stuff you directly typed in ?

it was text clipped from the web - HTML, which I had then edited.
Yes, I should have reported at the time
(I only reported it now cause of noticing that discrepancy)

Hi Tom,

We don't always have the time to report stuff... No worries !
I was just thinking that maybe, if someone else experienced the same problem, a solution could've rapidly be found to your problem.

In any case, here are the filters you could use to find out if there are still other discrepancies in your DB (in a "search" grid, maybe):

itemHasHTML is null AND temHTMLWordCount > 0
itemHasHTML is null AND itemHTMLtextsize > 0

With the second filter, I found 2 more items without content in the HTML pane, but had content in the itemHTMLText field.
This is exactly the same problem reported earlier by james8games.

Since I wasn't sure if those were purposely  deleted (they were pretty old and not important), I selected the content in itemHTMLText and copied it back in the HTML Pane for good measure.

4 out of 63842 items could certainly be related to human mistake, but I really wonder why itemHTMLText would have content but... nothing in the HTML pane.

Followup :

I just did a query in my search grid : itemHTMLWordCount > 0 and itemHasHTML is null
I got 4 items, one from 2008. I know those previously had content and it was erased by me (usually transferred in the outline). So everything seems ok in my DB. No data loss as far as I can see.

However, it does confirm that the itemHTMLWordCount bug has been there for a while -- probably since the beginning. Only, you're the first to notice !

Workaround : the "create a new HTML document" button in the HTML pane (ctrl+n) does clear the word count.
