(FWIW, the problem here is probably related to part two below)

Part one:

Okay, as often the case, we're not paying attention when things go wrong -

Here's how I remember it all:

I realised I wasn't up-to-date on this machine (Win7 x64) so I upgraded to version 14

Opened my main file;

I reopened the file and tried a repair, and got this:

OK, again I'm not sure if I restarted IQ, or just reopened the file, but either way it worked next time.

Part two:

this is probably related to a previous problem I experienced in the last couple of days (no idea why):

when I started IQ, I have it set to open previous grids. But it didnt open all previous grids. I clicked on the missing grid - nothing happend - when I looked under manage grids, it indicated (top-right) that the grid was open.

After upgrading though - I have the same problem with one grid - yet when I open manage grids, I no longer see any indication - for any grid - that it is open. Have you changed something there Pierre?

Is the problem finally gone or has it remained ?

When you say "manage grid", do you mean the grid menu ?

Also : how many grids do you have ?

Hi Armando, I numbered your queries there:

1) it was still there when I posted yesterday - will get back to you tommorow afternoon though, when I'm back on that machine.

2) you know, the "Manage Grid" dialogue - the one where you modify grids, or create new ones.

3) around 70 grids in that file. FWIW, many are unused and have few items.

I have an older copy of that file on this (Win 8) machine which is working fine -- NOTE though that I got the same error warning on first opening the file - second opening was fine.

(Where the problem is is a win7 x64 machine)

2- the reason I asked is because you mentioned "when I looked under manage grids, it indicated (top-right) that the grid was open". Where is that "open grid" indication in the "Manage Grids" dialogue? It might be there but I never noticed it and I can't see at the moment. In the "grids menu" (ctrl+shift+O, on my machine), yes, opened grids have a check mark beside their names.

3- after 100 grids, I start experiencing problems opening grids. (EDIT : That's a known bug, probably related to how the menu works internally; the "grids menu" (ctrl+shift+O) won't open any grid after the 100th. However, note that this is not a problem with the "Manage grids" dialog.)

No, the grid still does not show. Here's some more info and background:

I have two grids with the same source:

one is open

the second does not show when I lclick open - but it's lineage (?) does show in the statusbar.

the '=CONTENT' item there had focus. I then opened the problem grid ('ArdfertToDo').

See the lineage there - it's from the invisible grid...

But what you say about being able to see which grids are open - my grids menu does not have any indication which grid is open (it's a vertical menu).

- About being able to see which grids are open (note that in this screenshot, some my toolbars are organized vertically), see the checkmarks:

- about the "open" button (yes, it's not an indicator but a button to open grids), it has been repositioned in a more sensible place, bottom left, near "save" :

- Now about your grig problem. The lineage is always for the currently selected item; it shouldn't have anything to do with grids, but I'm getting that what it reflects in your case has nothing to do with currently selected item...?

If certain grids don't open at all, regardless of what you're using to open them ("grids menu" or "manage grids" window), that's a problem for Pierre.

Yes, as I said:

it's showing the lineage of an item from (i.e. shown in) the grid which was just opened - but the grid cannot be seen, hence christened "the invisible grid"

I got it to open once just now using "Manage Grids" - I closed it, tried via the Grid Menu. Then tried again via "Manage Grids" and it didnt work.

Here's what I *think* is happening:

I open via the menu - the grid opens but is not visible.

If I then try via "Manage Grids", it wont show.

But if I open the grid first via "Manage Grids", it open properly

so yes, I presume one for Pierre

Bizarre twist with most of a solution:

I decided to close all open grids. When I closed the last one, three grids popped out of nowhere.

Somehow there was another panel (vertical tab group) which was completely hidden - and the newly opened tabs were being opened there.

I always use "dualpane" and I always reopen with the grids from previous session. I had "dualpane" in operation until this afternoon when I closed the other pane/grids to see if it made any difference.

So,

I've no idea where this other vertical panel came from

I also have no idea why grids were being opened in the hidden panel (?)

Note: the problem existed shortly before updating to 14

EDIT// I'll report back if have any further problems with it.

That was probably it. This can happen If you open a DB and minimize it while it opens : panes will be squashed to the side and be invisible. EDIT : only one of the "panes" will be visible. However, when this happen, you'll find out that you can hover your mouse pointer on the side of the visible pane and the cursor will change to the "resize" pointer; if you click and drag, you'll be able to see the other pane(s). I often had to do this when IQ took more time to load and I minimized it to be able o attend other tasks as it was loading -- this is not possible anymore as it loads much much faster.

Pierre : is there a way to not have the grid borders seemingly disappear completely when moved to the (extreme) side ?

odd, still none here :-/

Maybe it's time to dump my 'install' and start afresh...
