There are times when I can't engage the Filter process from the Icon on the source bar
On those times I can engage it from Grid properties & add the filter I want to use
Then everything is ok

<CTRL>M does not seem to mark an item "done"
I have not checked the custom toolbar thingy
Just an observation

Has <Ctrl> been marking an item as done before ? If not, you should just set your "Done" field. Me, I chose the "Check" field, which  is linked (by an auto assign) to the Done field. But you could just choose the Done field if it's not already set.

In Field management dialog :  properties section : "Is 'Done' field" should be checked.

As for the filter text box, I haven't noticed anything. I use <enter> all the time though... I might try to use the icon, just in case.

Armando, From your question, I think I wasn't precise enough... sorry.

Before keyboard shortcut <CTRL>+M added  a DateDone
I believe this is independent from setting Done field to 'yes' or 1

Now nothing happens when I use <CTRL>+M
So I conclude there must be something wrong with the shortcut key assignment.
Right?

Actually, <CTRL>+M has everything to do with the field set as a "Done field" and this is set in the field management dialog. You could choose any field to be a done field and ctrl+m would trigger it (fill it with the default data for that specific field : date, check or whatever. Like I said, my done field is the "check" field)

There could be something wrong with the shortcut key assignment, however mine still works. Did you check in you item menu if the button still has the ctrl-M assigned to it ?

What you could do is :
tools->Keyboard Shortcuts --> View all shortcuts.
And see if ctrl+M is there.

If not, go into the customize dialog (right click on any toolbar, like in MS Word or whatever, go to the keyboard section, and reassign it.)

Thanks Armando.

Perhaps something else is happening.
I have attached a zip file which includes the following files:

  1. DateDone field properties
  2. customize keyboard assignments
  3. current keyboard shortcut list
  4. marking item done via item menu
I tried from both left & right <CTRL> keys
The <CTRL> keys tested ok otherwise

hmmm... Thanks Jan.

I had a few problems trying to cut and paste recently so I wonder if it's some wider UI issue, or just something with my clipboard and something about your settings.

It could also be that some other field like the "Done" field is set as "Done field" and would conflict ?

You could also try to reset all shortcuts and then re-load your user specific ones from the tools menu. I did that once, and it worked well. Just make sure that you don't loose your user shortcuts. But you shouldn't.

Where do I reset all shortcuts? Couldn't find it, missed it somehow.

took me a little time to find it:
right-click any menu/button(icon) >select Customize
On the Keyboard tab click Reset All

Got it. Thanks for the effort, Tom. Unfortunately, it didn't do a damn thing. I still can't mark anything done either from the keyboard or from the menu

Checked all the "logical" fields to see if there was a conflict > there was none
created new video for you to illustrate that there re no filters & no date is created

Jan, you've spent enough time on this one. There's certainly a conflict somewhere...
Did you try a reset (keyboard shortcuts) + reload your custom ones ?

I would test it after doing the keyboard reset & *before* importing the custom shortcuts.

I have had problems with importing keyboard shortcuts but havent checked it out properly. Basically they didnt import and seemed to screw up some default shortcuts - but the screwed up default shortcuts  were fixed after the next update. I have yet to change/customise most of the shortcuts again (manually).

I did that a few times and it always worked perfectly.
I actually have a backup of my customization and always use it...
When you view your shortcut (through the tools menu), just save as something else (e.g. : UserBACKUP.Shortcuts.tab), or somewhere else

yes & yes.
The ONLY thing that works is manually adding value to DateDone field

Does it work for a completely fresh installation, in a new folder ? If not, perhaps Windows is stealing the CTRL-M keystroke (though I would know how to do this )

Fresh install, not portable to default location. Same result
<CTRL>+ M does nothing
Main Menu > Item > Mark as Done = nothing

- Did you install anything new recently ?

Clean install, sample DB, everything works fine (as in my own ol' DB with my current install) :

Armando, it definitely looks like I have a local problem. As for installing new software, sure. I'm always installing new software & I'll go thru & try to thin my herd to see if that solves it. Right now I can't even clip using <Win>+C or even context menu copy to IQ command. Something is really sick. I don't know where to start but I've got to figure this out before I go completely batty

Is it possible that this happens only when the grid is hoisted ?

I don't think so Pierre

This was caused by the most unexpected cause... Jan had a field called Now. This name is identical to the Now VBScript function and was preventing it from executing.

Field names cannot be the same as VBScript functions.

Starting v0.9.25B, I'm testing for this

Thanks Jan, together, we've tracked this hard to resolve issue !!!

Yes, I mentioned this problem at least 2 times in the last 2 years. This can cause all kinds of problems. I'll look at my notes to see if there are some things of any interest in them.

Pierre, it's true that we tracked this hard to resolve issue but let's put the compliment where it should be:

100% on you.
Thank you for spending so much time on our conference call when you could have been out bike riding or playing w your daughter.
Thanks for your patience & absolutely FANTASTIC user support.
This, too, reminds me of the help users (including me) got from the developer of my other favorite program -> IDimager.
Besides having an excellent & complicated program, Hert's support was a hallmark in the community.
He now has silicon valley backing.
I wish the same success for you.
