After installing 0.25E I suddenly had PreRel16 loading immediately afterward - and telling me the date was about to expire (now it says has expired).
I found the old version still on the computer and deleted it - but I still get the message!
I have unpinned it from the Start menu and repinned it again. Still have the problem.
When I close 25E 16 shows up again - and it is hard to close - comes up with the beta expired message again. Sometimes a window where I have to tell it again to close.
However, data I entered into 0.25E still seems to be there when I open it again.
Are there rogue registry entries? - shouldn't be because I use the portable install option.

The portable does not write to the registry. How do you start IQ ?
  1. Double-click on an .sndb file, or
  2. Start the IQ program
If (1), Windows association is wrong, remove all versions and do Open with... and select the new version
if (2), I don't see how this can start a previous version

I start the IQ program (either dble click on the exe file, or pinning it to the start menu in Win 7.
A few minutes after closing the 16 version, and having been working in 25E, I have just had 16 pop up again. Weird!
I'll try and look more closely at what I am doing when the rogue version pops up next
It has just happened again - after I switched from writing this note to click on a couple of items in the grid I was working on 5 minutes ago.
Version 16 comes up with no database showing.

Do you need to keep the old version?
You could always zip it for future use if you really need to.

In any case, it's weird and I wonder what makes the process run.
Could be the auto-backup or something like that that's running another process. How is your auto-backup set (if any), in terms of schedule?

If version 16 comes up, it must be somewhere on disk. Have you tried rebooting ?

Could version 16 come up on a hotkey or on a browser extension action ? If so, that version is still in memory (task manager should show it). Either way, a reboot should get rid of it (unless it is in some auto-start folder / reg key)

Still happens - just spawns another instance of ver 16. Once when I had just clipped something from a webpage about 20 min ago, and about 5 minutes ago it just happened again although I was browsing in Firefox on another site at the time. When I open task manager I can see that another IQ process has begun (with a much smaller memory - presumably because it is not opening a database) The two instances have quite separate PID and a different number of threads.
This has happened over the last few days - so shutting down and restarting hasn't altered anything.
I think I have deleted all version 16 files including the zip - but will do some more checking.
A real puzzle.

Does task manager not tell you where the process is?
I've been using Process Explorer for years instead of the task manager - from Sysinternal (now a part of MS but keeping their name)
If you right click on a process & select properties you can see it's location on the first tab ('Image')

hope that helps

Thanks Tom, I found another InfoQube.exe ver 16 in a directory one above the one where I have 25E (using Process Explorer helped). don't know how I missed that - or why I had ver 16 in two places to begin with.
I've now deleted it - and hopefully the problem with it. Tomorrow will tell.

Problem all solved once I got rid of that extra ver 16 - don't know how it got there or didn't cause a problem before now, but all seems well.
Thanks for helping
