Using 0.9.25H build 12/3/2010 installed version on Windows XP SP3:

Adding any of the following characters anywhere in a line "( ) { }" causes the last few characters of the line to get converted into into ellipses "...". (Perhaps it's also worth noting that the parentheses and/or curly brackets get displayed with extra space around them.) This happens whether or not word wrap is toggled.

Is there a particular reason for this curious behaviour? I'd like to find a way to get the lines to display in full.

I don't have this problem and never heard of it before. Could you post one or two screenshots ? One with word wrap on and the other one off ? I wonder if it could be linked to some settings like : font, alignment, etc. ? I usually use Left Alignment (in field management), and for the grid, the font I use is Corbel.

Okay, I sort of figured it out. I noticed that the effect only happened in my installed version, but not in my portable version. Then I discovered the critical difference between the settings: The installed version uses the font "@Arial Unicode MS" whereas the portable version simply uses "Arial Unicode MS" (with the "@" at the beginning). Using the former causes the strange effect. Here's the normal appearance, using the font without the "@":

And here's how it appears using the "@Arial Unicode MS" font:

Notice the ellipses at the end of some of the lines above. All I did was change the font without changing the text.

I can't say for sure whether the "@Arial Unicode MS" font was a built-in setting or the result of my mistaken attempt to return to a built-in setting, but anyway, I don't really understand what the font is and where it came from. Practically speaking, however, the issue is solved for now.

Interestingly, after reading your previous post, I tried using the Corbel font, and I got further strange results with unwanted ellipses. Here is a screenshot of two sentences in the normal Arial Unicode MS font:

And here are the same two sentences with the font changed to Corbel. Notice that only the first sentence gets the mysterious ellipse (and strange spacing):

And bizarrely it has to do with the specific letters. If I switch the B and the A, the effect gets reversed. (Note that the effect also seems to be somewhat dependent on font - size and/or zoom. I get the effect at 9 and 10 pt, but not 8 pt.) Does anyone else get these weird effects?

In those examples I see a space at the start of the "B" line which would affect the line length. I think that might explain the A/B reversal effect. And as you say, it seems to be a result of font size/spacing crossing some (invisible) boundary line.

Thanks for your response. You're right about the extra space, but in this case it's not the culprit. Switching the "A" and the "B" even without changing the spacing reverses the effect, so I think the issue here is something more esoteric. Just for good measure, here's a fresh screenshot with the extra space removed (notice the strange ellipses remain):

And just for the sake of science, here I have reversed the initial space from the original screenshot. Notice that now the line extending less far to the left is the one with the ellipses:
