The property pane resets itelf after each entry on my forms. This makes it necesssary to scroll back to where I have been which, in my opinion, is not desireable because it interrupts workflow.
Also, I noticed that it's now necessary to press F2 each time I want to edit a field's content. As far as I can remember, this hasn't always been the case, no? It's not a big deal and it's actually safer, but the problem is that every time I forget to press F2, I'm in "Search as you type" mode and the focus suddenly moves to another field.
Search as You type is immensely useful, but maybe not that much in the right column. What do you think ?
Armando, Pierre did change over to F2 a while back to make it the common entry command. But I don't understand what you mean by Search as you type re: the right column. Please explain.
However, in grids you don't have to press F2 to edit a cell's content. Unless you're in "search as you type" mode (ctrl + F3).
In the properties pane, unless I'm mistaken, it used to be like grids. But now it seems that F2 is compulsory : if you don't press it and just start typing while focus is on an editable area, focus will (or might... It depends on if you have some data in some other field) jump to another editable area where the data corresponds to what you're typing. Anyway, try it, and you'll see what I mean.
I'm just asking for opinion here as it seems to slow down work flow here. In any case, I don't want to blur the current thread's subject. I can create another thread for that problem.
I'm working right now on solving both issues raised in this thread.
Specifically:
Improved update on field-value change [edit] The issue is the Values section or the Properties pane. I now update all values, but new values will not appear. To view these, open/close the section. This is much smoother ! [/edit]
If focus is in the first column, then auto-search is ON, if in the second column, it is OFF. Also, Edit will start as soon as a key is pressed.

Sounds good. I'm not sure though that the "Values section" is the only problem here. Or is it? What I mean is that even if everything is closed, and that includes the value section, when I fill a long form, properties pane jumps/scrolls at the top after each entry. The focus stays where it was though so pressing the down or up arrow brings the focus back to where I was.

Just a note about the "value" section "problems" and the possible solutions.
I can already foresee that users will start posting questions like : new values don't appear in the value section as I update them elsewhere ?
If anything is implemented it has to be either 1) self explicative or 2) transparent.
As far as the Value section goes, I'm not sure what the solution would be. Maybe always close it when another section is opened since it's not going to be updated anyway... Leaving it open serves nothing.
I agree w you on this. The way Pierre describes this 'fix' is another one of those weird things a user has to go thru to see their data entry take effect, i.e.
refresh manually, close / re-open grid, close / re-open program, etc. Pierre has cleaned up a lot of these oddities but it seems he's creating one here.
Also you did a helluva job cleaning up this forum. Thanks for that. As for Mantis not being used, I can tell you from my perspective:
(1) I'm never quite sure when it's ok to post there
(2) it's a little intimidating but I guess I should grow up & learn how to use it as it's a good way for Pierre to survey his work & to prioritize
The reason for this temp. fix is that the Properties Pane is to be split into 2: Item properties in one pane, the rest in a second one (or tabs in a pane). This will permanently solve this issue. But this takes time and I wanted to provide a better solution. The properties pane is much more responsive now than it was before.
Thanks, Pierre. Just to clarify, does this mean there will be a tab for forms, another for properties, etc? If so, this sounds like an elegant solution.
- Properties pane fix : I don't have anything to add to what Pierre said. It's temporary, but in the mean time, I'm sure you'll savour the fact that it's more responsive and less jumpy. ;) I really enjoy the way the properties pane behaves now. What a relief !
- Mantis : I'm going to take care of it anyway, so it's a per user decision. Of course, if you feel like entering bugs/suggestions once they've been discussed/confirmed, it's great!
