It's time for the updated calendar.................PLEASE

Comments

Hi Jan,

I was away on vacation last week.

The last version is just over 2 weeks old... what feature of the Calendar are you waiting for ? (The Google Calendar sync is being worked on...)

I'm waiting for a completed calendar project, i.e. updated GUI, easier date entry, i.e. next tue @ 1:30p-10:00am, back & forth to the grid,  etc. It's a functioning calendar now but not the polished product. It would be a tremendous help to have it finished once & for all.

Hope you had a nice vaca.

Thanks, Pierre.

I was debating about staying out of this discussion because I see where it could become critical and negative. I share your frustrations Jan, and have indicated as much. The project has fallen way behind schedule. It is true that we have seen many unanticipated enhancements, but I am sure that these additions have come at a cost. Unlike you, I am far less concerned with the calendar, but I completely agree that the inconsistencies and the need to manually do many things which should be handled through the GUI are maddening. As I see it, the roadmap is out the window. 25 was supposed to be stabilized with work proceeding on 26. Version 1.0 was around the corner.

As I wrote in an earlier post (http://www.sqlnotes.net/drupal5/index.php?q=node/2261) I feel that I cannot rely on IQ. Whether using it during meetings or just quietly behind my desk, it takes too long to create a complex filter. In Ecco, FileMaker, Ultra Recall, etc. it takes a few seconds with the GUI. Not to mention that some displays are simply  faulty. Example? Last night I filled out a find. I got three hits but the shown in grid column was blank. OK, I tried it again. Same result. The third time was the charm and the list of grids was displayed. Were they correct? I did not have time to check. That too is a problem because I constantly have to check on my work.

Anyway, like you, I would like to see these loose ends tied up. Unlike you, if I had a choice, I'd concentrate on the outliner.

Fair enough, Jon. I share some of your observations. My focus on the calendar is simple.
(1) It's a finite project. Once it's done, it's done
(2) It's a selling point: a calendar that works with a grid, syncs with google & any android mobiile. I don't know of any other product on the market that does that. Certainly not Ecco or Ultra Recall. Maybe Zoot but it would give IQ some bragging rights.
(3) Calendars are a common denominator. Everyone uses a calendar one way or another.
(4) I think tweaks to the outline will be ongoing for as long as IQ is alive
(5) when we were voting for new things, I think calendar was the top choice. & I didn't even vote with all my votes. (Edited 03.12 > actually it was 2nd to synching w outlook & google)

But I definitely understand your reasoning & comments as everything is sort of working but nothing is finished. Finally, I'm glad you enjoined the conversation.

It does seem like a tremendously long time between "But 2011 will be the year of IQ v1.0 ! Stay tuned." per Merry Christmas and Happy new Year !, and now, but I'm still hopeful, even though the last releases were mostly bug fixes.

It is a pleasure to use most of the time for me, but that's with way too much on-the-job-training and knowing workarounds.
