IMHO, Instead of spending a lot more time on writing and fixing internal map functionality, I would suggest it would better to look at supporting something like FreeMind. Which is way more powerful than anything you want to build into IQ.

You can already copy/paste from IQ to FreeMind using tab-indented outline format. Actually, there seems to be some issue with what IQ puts in the clipboard. I have to paste it into something else and then copy it again to have it work right.

If you were to give us XML export I could whip up a IQ/mmap XSL pretty easily that allows you open directly from FreeMind. If you give us XML import I could even com close to doing round-trip. The latest FreeMind has added custom attributes, so we could bring a lot of the IQ info over to support things like conditional formatting.

On the XML import/export, as I have said before a few times, if you just want to export/import your native format (the cut/paste) format we can XSL around that. FreeMind and Bonsai actually have template engines built-in that might allow simply saving and opening from your IQ XML format. Or we can use UltraRecall format, but you have to let me know what works and doesn't work (I think right now it doesn't support some important things like dates).

(Disclaimer : I'm not yet a "map view" user) I see what you mean. But I don't think you'd be able to easily do the "round" trip your referring to. this is more akin to syncing than import/export -- something a bit more tricky to implement. And even if there was syncing and that syncing was perfect, it would be much more cumbersome to instantly switch between views : grid / map / pivot table... You'd have to export/import/sync in between each operation... Not the greatest work flow IMO. That said, Your offer seems excellent ... :) And the ability to communicate with Freemind is certainly a good one, and should be added to Mantis (if it's not there already).

Yes, I am not saying this could be a full replacement. A minimal grid view can certainly be helpful in the tool. What I am suggesting is that trying to build a "full" grid view is not the best use of time when there are external grid tools that do all we could ask and more. And lot's of other tools also, if we could just export/import...

I'll add that the ability to export/import from an external tool typically creates new visibility and interest from that external tool's users. In other words, its a great way to get more users/customers.
