I had a use for this in a view I've created & thought I could add column "Shown In" like you see in search results but it didn't appear in fields so I guess it's not available. Is there a reason for that, am I missing  something, is it possible or does this replicate the discussion about a "home" column?  I see ItemHomeGrid but I don't know how it's populated? That might cover my needs but it's a mystery to me.  Thanks.

Comments

I've read all the help notes on this but still don't understand how this field is populated.
I guess it's good that a favorite looks first for a itemhomegrid to display itself there but I don't see ANY of my new items being assigned a homegrid.
Maybe I just don't understand the concept.
I have a itemhomegrid column set up but it's blank

Thanks

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but here goes...

Item's don't have a field/property that says what grid they are in, because they are dynamically assigned by the source bar's source and filter SQL criteria. So item's don't have any innate Grid assignment, that can be in any Grid or none.

The "shown in" is computed somehow based on the current grid views. That said, there is no reason why it can't be computed in the properties view also - just like parents, siblings, and children are computed.

Maybe add it as a feature request in Mantis?

Your description Dave is correct !

Adding ShownIn in the Properties pane is a good idea !

So is having it displayed in a grid column. I can see adding this to the grid as part of the major rework to bring he grid closer to what Ecco was.

Isn't the "shown in"  supposed to be eventually related to the "home grid" concept ?

No... remember, what grids are showing is dynamic. The HomeGrid is where you want to see a particular item. If it isn't currently shown in this grid (a filter is enables), IQ Hoists it in this grid. In theory, the item doesn't need to even logically belong there, it is entirely a user choice.

Ok, thanks!
Then I guess we might have a "home Grid" column in the search dialog, eventually ?

Great idea ! Or better yet, shown in bold in the ShownIn list

But it might not be in the Shown In list, right (per your previous comment)?

Perhaps Home Grid is the wrong name, something like "Default Grid" might be better.

"Home" comes from Ecco, if I'm not mistaken.

But I must say that I like the "Default" concept much better... In any case, as long as it works. ;)
