Pierre, In your spare time    could you look at The Bat! from RitLabs.

I think they offer an easy way to integrate with their email client. It's an extremely fast product which I used to use & am switching over to again. I'm wondering if you could create a clipper for it as well. Thanks for your consideration. Jan

Thunderbird is getting a little buggy; it's not filtering right for some reason. I've gotten tech help but it's still happening. It may have to do with filter priority. Still checking. I haven't totally switched over as it will take me some time but The Bat! is SO FAST it's amazing & only gotten better with time.

I can, of course, just copy the msg itself & ignore the headers but it would be nice if I could preserve email msgs as such in IQ.  Take a look if you can & let me know if it's doable. It may be a lot of trouble at your end and then I'll have to think twice about switching over.  Thanks, Pierre.

What would help is if you can find 1 or more other app that have extensions for The Bat (that can grab / save emails)

Just an aside, Jan, I recently reviewed several email apps, including TheBat, and narrowed it down to two options: Postbox (http://www.postbox-inc.com) and eM Client (http://www.emclient.com). Postbox is the prettier of the two, but eM Client is fast and light. I'm running Postbox on my desktop and eM Client on my notebook (in parallel), just to see which one sticks. Thought you might want to check these out before committing to TheBat.

I was reading about Postbox lately on donationcoder:

(Mainly) positive:
gmail integration/ good for everyday use / "weakness on the contact front" Link

Negative:

Thanks Glen. I installed PostBox & have been playing with it. To me it looks like a front end for Thunderbird, not much difference. Maybe I'm missing something. Can you fill me in on your findings. Thanks.

Was wondering if you had any more comments on these two Glen?

I see Postbox is US$9.95 at the moment (this may be a fixed price, I'm not sure).

For the record / from a donationcoder thread:

I have been using Postbox for well over a year -
I find it nice for email and interaction management.
Fast search, and I have a lot of email and quite a
few accounts.

I agree with your choice. I have been a user of The Bat since v1.6. It is very feature rich, very powerful, and configurable. I deal with hundreds of messages a day, and The Bat has been a good ally in making sense of it all. You should know that I have stuck with version 4. I have found version 5 to be more of a work in progress so I am waiting. It has improvements with IMAP, but I have found 4 to be much more dependable. I primarily use POP3 accounts, but I also have 2 IMAP accounts.

I have a sub-folder under the IQ data folder into which I drag a message. From there drag the created file to IQ, creating a link. I know it it not what you want, but it suffices for me. I don't do this often because it is far easier to drag the message to Ultra Recall where it is stored and displayed.

By the way, I am able to drag the message to Ecco Pro. It is stored in Ecco's database. Also by the way, Ecco's functionality has grown tremendously with the latest Ecco Extension. However, I have taken notice that additional folders have been added to manage the new functionality. This is disturbing because I have hit various file limits in the past. Adding folders (and contents) may ultimately reduce the amount of information a user can add or search. For this reason alone, I am grateful to Pierre for providing an option with IQ.

How is it not filtering correctly for you? For me my main problem is searching can be hit/miss, but then I just search on gmail. Are we talking about the same problem?

In any case, the combo of Thunderbird with  the Thunderbird Conversations extension (Gmail conversation view) works great for me and I don't want to give that up.

It's gotten better with the latest updates.

I like Thunderbird because I'm into the idea of doing something, reading something, writing something ONCE from anywhere at any time so working with Google is optimal for me.

I even tried Postbox which is a fancier Gmail front end. There some things I like about it better than TB. It is supposed to be completely compatible with TB so I tried the IQ clipping extension on it w/o luck. And I like the the IQ email clipper so don't see enough improvement over TB to move over to Postbox. But take a look, yourself, if interested. I'd be interested in your take.

I may be wrong, but I think the format used in The Bat! is proprietary (and apparently not the easiest thing to handle), so it might be quite hard to add support for it. I asked MailStore to add support for it in the past and they told me they couldn't.

I used The Bat! for a number of years paying for multiple upgrades (even at version 4 and 5 where the only noticeable difference was the icons), and it is a powerful client in many ways -- it just wasn't worth it anymore compared to how well Thunderbird does what it does.

Regarding eM client, it is worth noting that it was included as part of SoftMaker Office Pro.
