I need to open a file link in non-default software.
 
I tried creating a link in IQ thus:
 
"C:\Program Files (x86)\LibreOffice 4\program\swriter.exe" [full filepath here without square brackets]
of course using the link format:
 
is this possible - if so, what am I doing wrong?

Okay,
the way to do this is to create a shortcut with [app-path filepath] and then drag the shortcut into IQ.
 
(But, saying that, the swriter.exe (Libre Office) example above doesnt work as a shortcut even. So I presume the problem there is with swriter.exe - maybe I have to use a different path. I gave up on it anyways.)

Have you tried setting Tools > Options > Program settings > Other > Show Open With ... ?

yes, that works ! -- unfortunately though, it doesnt work with shortcut links - i.e. *.lnk files though, which makes it a kind of a no no...

I first tried it on an .lnk shortcut file which linked to an xls file.
I got the "Windows cannot open this filetype..." so I chose to browse and opened it in "Calc" (Libre office again).
I unexpectedly got this:

Tom, I think the program you are trying to establish the link to has to be registered with Windows for the URI to function. It has been a while, but I was able to use a URI from Ultra Recall in IQ. It worked as expected, opening Ultra Recall and going directly to the item.
