"Keeping edit-focus when moving away & back to IQ window"
... wasnt really sure what to call this - read on:

Using Softmaker Office's spreadsheet programme (Planmaker) as an example - scenario:
  • I'm editing a cell
  • I move focus to another window and back - the cell is still in edit mode

I'm wondering whether this would be possible in IQ ?

This would be especially advantageous when using clipboard extenders - currently, if a field is in edit mode, I open my clipboard extender's list of recent clips - edit mode is already gone in IQ  :-(

(I know you're busy with other stuff Pierre, but thought I'd chance the request in the hopes that you'll just have to pass it on to the grid supplier...)

Comments

I'm going back to this again, because it's a big problem when using a clipboard manager:

You're editing text in a field, press the hotkey to show a list of recently copied clips - the field has already gone out of edit mode...
If you paste your selected clip at this stage, the whole text in the cell gets replaced with the clip.

Am I right in imagining that this is one for the grid supplier? Either way I would appreciate is if it could be looked at at some stage,
thanks, Tom

You're correct and the last time I brought it up to them (exOntrol), they were not too receptive in "fixing" it...

Maybe this thread will convince them to do something about it as it is a problem and not just for clipboard managers. System-wide spell checker (such as AsUType) cannot be used for the same reason.

I don't know of any other component / software that do this, and I can't imagine that it is difficult to change the behavior (or at least, add a flag to allow us, developers, the choice)

Keeping fingers crossed as they have been, in the past, extremely responsive to bugs and suggestions...

As an example of their responsiveness, their 2-D outliner "Surface" component, which I purchased, was developed on my suggestion (and in a record time !)

And I can't wait to implement it in IQ as it will be just superb...

Back to working on the Calendar...

cheers Pierre -
I knew I (and Armando I think) had reported it before, but couldnt remember the result,
hopefully they will fix - this is a major pain when working as described

and thanks for the quick-fix in the other post/thread!

Hi Tom,

It's annoying, for sure.**

The other annoying (and very dangerous) one is the column filters drop down where pasting pastes in the grid... not in the text box. I got burned quite a few time by this one. my report is somewhere in the  forum and Mantis.

This dropdown is not standard and should be fixed by the grid supplier too, to accommodate ctr+z, ctrl+v/c, etc. and isolate it from the  grid.

**The way I deal with that : I paste in the grid anyway (the way most clipboard  work, I don't always have the choice if I want to avoid to many steps), do a ctrl+z, reposition my cursor in the cell and repaste there.

Have you seen the column filters introduced via EE in Ecco Pro? These are really well designed, powerful and easy to use. One disadvantage is that you have to scroll to the top of the notepad (grid) to access them, but while inconvenient, it is a small price to pay. Another good model (in my opinion, but I understand that others may vehemently disagree) is Excel's use of drop down filters.

this appears to have been fixed by the implementation of WYSIWYG editing in the grid - i.e.
it works as requested when WYSIWYG is turned on
