Hello,

I have some issues with IQ's power consumption. I use it all the time so it has a measurable impact on battery life and laptop temp/noise (fan speeding up).

1- Simple GUI operation.

E.g.:
- moving focus left/right in columns makes the CPU jump to 25-30%. Many items, many columns, but No filters are active.

2- Equations

Fairly simple row/column equations equations and GUI updates use a lot of CPU cycles. Probably  optimizing stuff in the way auto-assigns and other equations are managed + some work on my side would help improving that.

3- IQ's idle CPU consumption

Somehow, IQ uses 1% of CPU when it's idle, all the time. (Of course, it'll use up to 4-6% for relatively short periods when it's not used and doing background operations, but I'm not talking about that.)

None are show stoppers, of course, but they do have an effect on battery life and laptop/tablet temp.

I'm always working on making things more efficient, rest assured !
I wish Google would do the same... have you used chrome lately? My cpu is often way up at 100% for no reason. Beurk

thnks.
yes, Chrome is horrible !! I need to close it most of the time when my laptop is unplugged  to avoid draining my battery. : - (

That said, IQ is the app I'm using the most, soooooo... I can't close it. : - )

IQ : I've noticed a sluggishness in the interface. I don't know how long it's been there, but I noticed it more in the last 2 days since I'm working with text a lot (writing) and I expect things to be relatively fast, as in a word processor (but I'm not expecting IQ to be as fast as MS word for paragraphs/new items, indentation etc.).
still, moving items up and down, indentation, etc. seems slow.
E.g. Indentation (moving an itembelow another one) takes 2-4 s almost everytime and it,s annoying.

Is it because IQ refreshes all grids at the same time? Not sure, but most grid operations are on the slowish side, even with my not too old laptop.

The 1% background is really low, nothing to worry.
Regarding the 25% when changing row/column, can you close all panes and see if it is better. If yes, try to isolate which pane is the largest contributor.

Thanks !

1% average is just a guess. It varies, goes up and down.True, it's not a lot.
That said, if all apps were taking between 1 and 2% at all time, my computer would be unusable.
EndNote takes about 3% all the time. Because of that I close it most of the time, even when i need it. 3% here, 2% there, 1 % there...
Anyway, as long as IQ doesn't go above 1-2% it's probably not a priority.

As for moving from one column to the other : it doesn't depend on panes. It might be related to the amount of columns OR amount of items OR amount of text displayed in fields.
Most grids with a lot of text are very sluggish

I know your IQBase is large and complex, so it may be the source of the issue, but things are very swift here and I have a 11 year old notebook (yeah, I know, what am I doing with such an antique ?)
Contact me and I'll send you private builds to isolate the issue. I suspect something related to conditional formatting...

Most problems described here are now fixed.

It was most probably linked to the auto-search visual cue. My guess is that auto-search was always "running" in the background but not fully activated until Ctrl+F3 was pressed.
- IQ is now usually under 1% when idle.
- moving from column to column doesn't stress the CPU over 3.5%

So... in the end it probably had nothing to do with my DB, conditional formatting, etc.
