This is related to scrolling (mainly using the mouse wheel) with the following conditions:

I have the html pane at the bottom and the grid has a relatively narrow space.
I have an item (5.3 below) with wordwrap on which is threfore very tall -
in fact, the 'tall' item is taller than the height of the grid display space:

a) I am unable to see the lower part of the (yellow) selected field of 5.3 - in fact the only way I can display it is to edit it and use the arrowkeys to move the text up.
The scrollbar behaves strangely when passing the tall item - it shrinks in size and stops working. Pressing the arrow at the bottom of the scrollbar works initially but stops working when displaying 5.3.

b) when I roll the mouse wheel one notch, it skips the bottom of item 5.3 ; skips the following item (5.4), and only shows the last item in the grid (5.5 - see below). With careful manipulation of the scrollbars I can get the missing item to show - using the arrow keys I can also get 5.4 to show.

Same here. Plus scrolling slow and chunky. Have reverted to v50 but now have other problems.
Sorry, thought you were talking about those problems I've been experiencing recently.

Hi Tom,

This is a known issue that one cannot enter huge amount of text in a grid cell. 1000 or so IIRC.
Better to use the HTML pane for that.
Note that you can show the HTML field in a grid...

HTH !

I've turned Wordwrap off for that column

Pierre:

I don't use the html panel, so I may be incorrect. I have to disable word wrap so large amounts of text in any grid cell will allow the grid to scroll smoothly. But what I infer from your advice is that the html field behaves differently in that the grid will scoll smoothly even if the html cell has a large amount of text. I am hopeful, but I don't think this is what you meant.

No this is not what I meant. I was referring to the HTML pane.

However, I'll add this in v0.9.26PreRel52:
  • New: Grid Properties: Maximum item height (pixels, 0=none)
This will help scrolling in situations where some grid cells have a large amount of text.

Thank you for the clarification Pierre. Adding maximum grid height is an excellent idea. Ecco (and most other outliners as I have experienced) have similar issues with large amount of text. I suppose I have come to live with that. Besides, the intent of outlining is limit your entries and expand on them later. At least that was they way it was when we used paper. When was that, about 5 years ago?
