Here are some things I'd like to see in the Shift+F2 "floating" edit text box.

(1)  make it movable, i.e. truly floating.  (put a border around it that the mouse can grab on to?)
(2)  maybe make keystrokes work more like they would in a grid cell.

For example,

(1) in a grid cell Enter saves changes to the item and creates a new item.  In the Edit box, it inserts a carriage return.
(2) you can't tab down to the OK button in the edit box.  Tab inserts a tab in the text.

I realize these behaviors may have been by design.

As an alternative, Alt+O does work to save the changes, close the edit box, and return to the grid cell.  Shift+F2 does the same thing.  I can live with this if the current "Enter" behavior is preserved.

I'll say one thing I like very much about the Shift+F2 edit box.  The cursor position is preserved if I switch from Infoqube to another program and then switch back !!  This is exactly what I want and was a very happy discovery for me.  Whereas, if I am doing my editing in the grid cell, and switch away from Infoqube and then back, I have to reactivate the grid cell, and position the cursor where it was in the cell.  How about switching the grid cell behavior to match the floating box?  Or is this difference between grid cell and floating edit box also by design?

Here is another example of a problem I've had when trying to use keystrokes in the Shift+F2 edit box.

I entered some text in an item, then tried to use the Ctrl+Shift+S keystroke to split the item into two items.  And in the bottom of the part of the text box, there appears an "Incremental Search" prompt.  Well, that's not what I wanted to do, so I automatically press the Esc button to cancel out of that.  But instead of cancelling out of the incremental search, Esc cancels the text box entirely, and I lost all the new text I put into the text box before I tried the Ctrl+Shift+S keystroke.  OUCH !!

Hi Jim,

Those are good suggestions.

In v0.9.26PreRel54:
  • New: Popup Editor: Can move the editor. Click anywhere in a blank spot and move
  • New: Popup Editor: Can hit Ctrl+F (or your custom Omnibox shortcut key) to open the Find and Replace dialog
  • Fixed: PopupEditor: Ctrl+Shift+S activated an edit box at the bottom of the editor. This is now disabled
HTH !
