It is sometimes beneficial to run two instances of InfoQube against the same IQBase. Probably, there are attendant dangers. When I do this, I tend to treat one window as read-only and make all changes in the second. As an example of when I find this helpful, the first window is displaying the modal dialogue "Field Properties" while the second window is where I actually make changes.

When opening a second instance, an error message is reported:

"
Upgrading the IQBase to the current format (3.90) failed. Current format
is 3. Close all instances of InfoQube, and perform a database repair. If
the issue remains, contact InfoQube Support.
"

Should perhaps this message be replaced with something more appropriate, saying that you are opening a second instance of the IQBase and warning you of any dreadful consequences that may occur?

Hi Mark,

A couple of things :
  1. You're not playing with fire by opening multiple instances of IQ. The database engine supports multiple simultaneous users. In addition, the way the data is structured inside the database avoids conflicts.
  2. You should not be getting this message. If you are, it means that the upgrade process did not run in the first place. I suspect it is a regional setting problem. I'll examine the code to ensure it works correctly. The last IQBase format change added the ability to show grids in the Properties Pane. Is this working for you ?
(the fact that the version reported is a round number (version 3) is not a coincidence, and will lead me quickly to the solution)

  1. Thanks, Pierre. That was my expectation, because otherwise I would not have put my IQBase at risk. That said, I do backup before undertaking slightly more risky changes. For the benefit of people who do not know InfoQube well, all that is necessary to quickly backup an IQBase is to copy and paste the file name. It is not even necessary to halt InfoQube while doing this. This simple copy has frequently saved me from a fate worse than death, for example when making experimental changes to grids.
  2. From what I can see, there is no particular problem here. There is a separate "grids" section in the properties display and it does appear to be displaying the name of the current grid correctly.

Yup, I found the issue. It is really minor and should not affect any users.
Fixed in the next version however

Thanks for that, I really didn't think this was anything other than a minor issue!

Every time I see the title of this thread I wonder if Pierre put the word fuck in one of his error messages .

But he didn't. Which must of course mean that the Freudian slip was mine when I chose the title! Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa...
