This is a great new feature, I'd like to suggest some features to make it even more useful:

1. Please allow the column set to load in the order that they are defined in the form.  For me they seem to load alphabetically instead of the order I have defined.  This negates a lot of the value of the feature for me because it makes the columns show up in a haphazard order, even though they may be defined in an order that gives them meaning.

2. If some of the columns in the column set are (already) visible, please allow the "load column set" to override the order (could be an option).  The goal here is the same as #1, to be able to load a set of columns quickly in the desired order.

3. It sure would be cool if it could somehow be remembered how columns are stacked, and load that with "load column set".  # 1 and 2 would be the priority of requests though since I imagine #3 is harder to do.

4. Not an IQ request, but if there is any way to make it possible to create a new posts from the "What's New" section of the forum, it sure would be nice.  Hardly a priority, I mention it only if it were something very easy to do.  I suspect most of us go there first, then we always have to go to "forums" to be able to post.  I probably wouldn't notice it as much except these forums usually load pretty slow.

Thanks Pierre!

I just noticed another big issue, which is that loaded column sets evidently don't even stay loaded if you close and reopen a tab.  I was super excited about this feature but as implemented it's just not very useful.  I went through every grid yesterday loading a column set I wanted in place and now every single one is gone.  The entire beauty of this feature is that it should eliminate the need to go in and spend an hour manually setting columns for 50 different grids.

Hi David,

Lots of good ideas here...

Loading a column set was meant to be a temporary thing. The grid retains "its native" columns.

Now, I can see two useful features that could be added:
  1. Option to save the current column set as the grid "native" columns. This would make changing grid columns much quicker
  2. Option to keep the current column set when the grid is closed and re-opened
HTH !

p.s. You have 50 grids ? Wow... power user !!!

Both options would be great.  I don't know if this is feasible but I'd also really like the ability to load a column set across ALL grids with one click.  I exaggerated when I said 50 :-).  I think I actually had about that many when I have IQ my first try years ago, this time I made a specific effort to cut down.  If someday we can group them by category I might start to add more again.

I seem to spend an inordinate amount of time adjusting columns - giving this a bump as a streamlined load column set feature would be incredibly useful.  Here they are in order of priority.

1. Load column set should load columns in the order of the form (enhancement request).

2. "Load column set" (this already exists)
2a. "Load column set permanently" (enhancement request)

2. "Load column set across all grids" (enhancement request)
2a. "Load column set permanently across all grids" (enhancement request)

Just implementing 1 and 2 would make this a truly killer feature.

Thanks Pierre!

This would have to be an option as I personally like the way it's currently implemented

How about if when a column set is loaded, Grid > Save would prompt you what to do:
  1. Save Grid, replacing grid columns with the current loaded set
  2. Save grid with the current loaded set and keep original columns as hidden columns
  3. Just save

Done in v77:
  • New: Grid > Save: If a column set is currently loaded, a dialog is shown offering to save the grid with this set of columns

Actually, I'm not even sure how it's currently implemented.  Today when I load column sets they load in the order they are in the forms, which is exactly how I want it to function.

However when I've loaded them in the past they seemed to load what appeared to be alphabetically, or at a minimum had no relationship to the order I have them on my forms.

How do they load for you that you are saying you like?

Pierre, what order are they supposed to load in?

The way it worked was to load columns in the order of the form. However, if the grid already had that column, the column was shown in its original position, not in the form's position
In v77, the tree column and columns to the left of it stay put, for others, I position the columns in the same order as the form
