Hi IQ Users,

In this release (v0.9.73 Beta):
  • New: Grid: Improved Group By support. Much faster and now multi-level and with Grouping buckets. Default grouping buckets are Dates: Year - Month, Numbers: 10's. Custom grouping buckets will be added in an upcoming release
  • New: Grid: Column menu now has a Group By Column command
  • New: Grid: Improved (simpler) UI for Grid sorting including option to sort just items (i.e. not sub-items)
  • New: Gantt: When using Group By, option to show a summary bar for the group. Allows easy way to move related bars
  • New: Gantt: Items overlay on Chart. If the left pane (i.e. the grid) width is set to near 0, the tree column is shown on the Gantt itself, as an overlay. Expand / collapse buttons are enabled. Property pane can be used to change item field-values.
  • New: Grid: Formatting toolbar now updates to show the current item format
  • New: Pop-up Editor: Formatting toolbar is now enabled to format text. Same for Hyperlink command
  • New: Pop-up Editor: Formatting toolbar now updates to show the current text format
  • New: Calendar: Moving the mouse over an event shown event details on the status bar
  • New: New Item dialog: Improved UI
  • New: File/URL drag-drop: Improved UI. Separate settings for files and URLs
  • Fixed: Grid: If the focus is not on the grid (i.e. could be the Source bar), Alt + Up/Down arrows moved the items up/down
  • Fixed: Grid: Through drag-drop, it was possible to put an item as a sub-item of itself
  • Fixed: Grid: Drag-drop an item from one grid to a different item was not possible if the second item was the currently selected item
  • Fixed: Gantt: If the Gantt pane is hidden and the grid is refreshed, the Overview and Histogram may incorrectly be shown
  • Fixed: New Item: wikitag dropdown does not work
  • Fixed: Calendar: If the time scale is not shown, dragging a scheduled event would make it unscheduled
  • Fixed: Calendar: Event tooltip showed time in 24h format
  • Fixed: Event dialog: Times are shown in 24h format, not in the format specified by the control panel
  • Fixed: Live Search: With the HTML pane shown, navigating in the search result grid with cursors keys was not possible because focus was given to the HTML pane
  • Fixed: Field Properties: Sometimes changes to conditional formats were not saved
  • Fixed: Properties Pane: Ctrl + Left/right arrows while editing incorrectly expanded/close the section instead of moving the cursor from word to word as it does in the grid
  • Fixed: Universal clipper using EmailToIQ did not properly encode characters (to UTF-8)
  • Fixed: HTML Export: Override item font is not saved.
  • Fixed: Status bar showed time in 24h format, not in the format specified by the control panel
[Edit] Updated to v73c with issues reported in the last few days [/Edit]

I'm just starting to test this:

  • New: Grid: Improved Group By support. Much faster and now multi-level and with Grouping buckets. Default grouping buckets are Dates: Year - Month, Numbers: 10's. Custom grouping buckets will be added in an upcoming release

I like it.

  • New: Grid: Column menu now has a Group By Column command
  • New: Grid: Improved (simpler) UI for Grid sorting including option to sort just items (i.e. not sub-items)
One word of caution to users : they should reset the main menu bar if they want to benefit from the changes

  •
  • New: Gantt: When using Group By, option to show a summary bar for the group. Allows easy way to move related bars
  • New: Gantt: Items overlay on Chart. If the left pane (i.e. the grid) width is set to near 0, the tree column is shown on the Gantt itself, as an overlay. Expand / collapse buttons are enabled. Property pane can be used to change item field-values.
cool stuff!

Gantt overlay : The items colors should probably stay partially deactivated even when user clicks in the gantt as it can hide the gantt bars. Right now item color is only partially activated when the focus remains in the grid rather than the gantt which is good  -- the best of both worlds.  Small adjustment.

Glad you like the new stuff. Regarding Gantt bar color being hidden, I don't quite follow you. Item color is not carried over to the Gantt section, at least not on my setups

The focus is in the grid, the overly isn't colored by itemcolor value

The focus is in the Gantt, the overlay is colored, hiding Gantt data

Humm, I cannot reproduce that. If I set some HTML back color attributes to the text, then the text itself will be colored, but never the whole line, and ItemBackColor does not change the color of the Gantt area...

OK, got it. It happens only when the item color is applies to the Item column (and perhaps other columns as well) (Grid settings > Options)

  • New: New Item dialog: Improved UI
Thanks for fixing the fields issue.

Note that Alt+W and Alt+F don't work. They move  the  focus to the HTML part.

Fixed !
BTW, there were other broken shortcuts. Also, added 2 new ones: Alt + I for the Item text, and Alt + H for the HTML text box

The new sort button makes sorting easier. I think it's a great idea as it really eases switching sort mode. Each sort mode has its strength depending on the usage scenario.

1 suggestion:
- wonder if the last column sort /grouping could be remembered for each grid.

[EDIT :  sorry, it seems like it does remember it. Maybe there are situations where it doesn't, I'll keep  my eyes open!]

And as I said earlier:
- the "source sort" (one of the sort options) still has a submenu, but it's empty.

- &... maybe a little arrow on the sort button when it's dragged out of it's original grid menu (on a new toolbar for ex.) would help seeing that it's not just a normal button.

Yes, this is a surprise feature for v74 probably... the sub-menu will list the history of the sort box, so switching between sorts will be easy

One last thing for today:

- The Group bars are all flashing grey/yellow when moving from a group bar to a normal item... The idea is interesting, but it's a bit difficult, visually.
(I love the way the text content of the groups moves when scrolling horizontally!!)

- Alt + F , Atl+W don't work in the revamped add item dialog

- Tabbing (tab/shift-tab) from one column to the other is slow. Using arrows is much quicker. Not a big deal (i use arrows, generally), but I wonder why.

I think it has to to do with my Color setup, yet again... I'll check that out and write down the steps later.

Pierre, this is one feature packed release. Thank you. I will start testing as soon as I re-customize it to resemble the customization I had successfully transferred through all of the RECENT releases up to 72b. I am thinking that the additions and changes in 73 impacts prior customization. Is this so? Is there a simpler way to restore the toolbar and menu bar to what I want or should I just start from scratch?

I don't think there's much impact. What I've done is get rid of the sort buttons in my own personal toolbars, reset the "menu bar" toolbar (I never customize that one as it serves as the basic original template for my own stuff), and drag/copy the new sort submenu to my toolbar (from the grid menu).

What I meant was that following the procedures I have followed successfully in the past to carry over my cusomizations have failed with this release. Specifically the menu which I have extensively modified. I'll just re-create them.

I see.
I've run into this problem a few times but I now keep menus/toolbars customizations to the minimum. I have three personal toolbars (filtering, grid context, omnibox), and they're easy to modify when needed -- I do run into occasional weirdness. The toolbars are mostly there as visual cues for grid parameters (display type, sorting, etc.); otherwise I access the standard menus or use the keyboard shortcuts (many of those are customized).
Obviously, everybody has a different workflow.

I run the portable version. I drag the user folder to my desktop and UserLicense.ini from the AppData folder to my desktop. I delete all contents of the folder where the the IQ program files are. I then restore the User folder and the UserLicense file to their proper locations.

I just open the zip (portable) and dump everything on my IQ folder to overwrite files. Always works. Some leftovers can remain after a while (obsolete libraries), but they don't do any harm.

  • New: Grid: Improved Group By support. Much faster and now multi-level and with Grouping buckets. Default grouping buckets are Dates: Year - Month, Numbers: 10's. Custom grouping buckets will be added in an upcoming release
  • New: Grid: Column menu now has a Group By Column command[/quote]
1. Is there any help documentation or screenshots on grouping?

2. I do not see any "group by column commands"?  I see screenshots here but no such commands exist for me.  I have reset all toolbars, closed and reopened, no luck.  Suggestions?

Edit: so it was moved to the Grid > Sort area?

Thanks

Exactly, as grouping also does sorting and uses the same sort / group bar
