I've been experimenting with navigating between grid and properties panes, and within the properties pane, using the keyboard.

If the properties pane is undocked, there is a clear indication of which pane is active - the color of the active title bar of the window.

However, if the properties pane is docked to one side, we do not have this indication of which pane is active.

I can't go by the "Selected Item Background Color", because the current item in both Grid and Properties pane has this same background color - whether the pane is active or not.

In this case, the only visual indication of which pane is active is the very small dotted "marquee" around the text in the current grid cell, or the current item/value in the properties pane.  It's not very eye-catching.  Is it possible to have a more eye-catching cue of which pane and which item/value is active?

I second this, and would like to see it extended to the HTML pane.  When the HTML pane is active, the color of the top bar changes, but it's so subtle it's difficult to notice.  Or maybe Pierre will tell me how to change it, I don't see a way in Tools > Options.

@Jim and David: The color is set by the Grid selected item backcolor. Tools > Options > 1.2.3. On mine systems, the active pane has a bright orange caption, making it quite visible...

OK, I guess that wasn't the most logical choice... Starting v74, the docking pane color will match that of the menus

I experimented with changing setting 1.2.3 - I finally discovered that changes to 1.2.3 (selected items background color) don't take effect until after a program restart - even though that setting is not marked by an asterisk.

Not quite...
  • The grid selected items backcolor does immediately update.
  • The pane back color does require a restart (starting v70, the pane back color is fixed)

Sorry, I should have clarified what I meant, I am aware of the setting under Tools>Options, but would like to be able to set HTML to a different color.  I like having the selected cell in the grid barely highlighted, whereas I'd like to be able to have the top of the HTML pane a bright color, as up there it's easier to miss.  Very minor issue though...

Continuing my experimentation of navigating IQ via keyboard ...

Just like a Grid has columns, the Properties Pane items also have columns, usually two - a "Field Name" column and a "Field Value" column.

When using the keyboard, it's a bit hard to see which of these two columns I'm in .. the little dotted line marquee is a bit difficult for me to see.

However - I see a fix for this.  I notice that in the Grids Pane, when I use the left and right keys in any row, the background color highlight moves from cell to cell, i.e. between the columns.  So it easy to tell which column you are in.  The whole row is not always highlighted.

If this were also applied to the Properties Pane, it would be much easier to see whether I'm in the "Field Name" column or the "Field Value" column.

The reason it's important - if I start typing text while in the "Field Name" column - the highlight moves vertically between Fields in an Auto-Search mode - which makes it easy to move to a desired field.  If I start typing text while in the "Field Value" column - and it happens to be a yes/no field - nothing happens!
