hi,

being able to double-click on a field in the Properties Pane to get a view (in Scratch or wherever) of all the items with values for it is incredibly useful. I think what would make it even more useful would be if that also automatically added that column to the grid that opens up (by default it seems to be Scratch). After all, that is what you want to see - the values for that field (in my case it's often because I look at a field I created and wonder, What was that for??)

Of course it's relatively quick to add the column yourself - it just seems like it would be a natural part of the operation to automatically include it.

Isn't already like this ? It is when I try it...

When I double click on the field name, it shows all the relevant items alright, but the grid (Scratch) will just show whatever columns were in it the last time it opened. What I was thinking of was if Scratch could also show the actual column you've double clicked, so you can see its values.

Thinking about it some more. If the field in question is Yes/No, I guess it doesn't matter if it appears in the grid; I mean if the item appears, you obviously know what the value of that field is, ie it's been ticked. In this case you're implicitly just looking for which items "belong" to that field. But if it's a text field, the field represents information and I want to see what's in it, throughout the db.

It's not a big deal, just something that occurred to me as I clicked on a field in the Properties Pane, curious to see what I had in mind when I created it... But it did seem natural to me, that when you double-clicked a field in this way, you would then see that field in the grid. The first few times it happened I kind of thought something was wrong.

Agreed... but what you're describing is what I see here, when I double-click on a field in the properties pane... Not you ?

Sorry Pierre, it never occurred to me what I was seeing was not the way it was supposed to work - hence my somewhat long-winded response! - No, when I double-click on a field in the Properties Pane, I get all the items with values for that field appearing in the Scratch grid, but the Scratch grid always shows whatever columns were last in it. Eg I remove all columns except Item (I mean actually remove, not hide or unchecking Show Columns) from Scratch. Then I double click in the Properties Pane on a field, Syntax. The Scratch grid now shows all items with some value for the field Syntax, but the field (column) itself does not appear in Scratch, which still just shows Item. Should I in this case be automatically seeing the column Syntax appear in the grid?

Yes it should.

I reproduced the issue. The field is only added to the grid if the grid is closed. I'll fix that in v78

Thanks for reporting

Perfect, Pierre! And meantime I have a solution, close the Scratch grid in between.
