I've recently come to the conclusion that I would like the possibilitiy to have two calendar views open at the same time. Something like month view on the left, grid(s) in the center and 3-day view on the right.

These are my questions / suggestions:

1. Is there any way ATM to actually have two calendar panes open at the same time, showing different views?

2. Could there be distinct font size settings depending on which view type is selected in each calendar pane? I. e. Could I set e. g. size 11 for 3-day view and size 8 for month view? (Ecco has pre-configured settings for this, I think, but font size is definitely smaller for the more comprehensive views.)

3. Would it be possible to enable a multi-line display of text on each calendar event, i. e. wrapping the text in the event box to show e. g. two lines per event? Again, it would be great to have this as a per-view setting.

Many thanks!

Hi Left !

By using Copy / Paste, you can have multiple instances of the calendar, showing a different view type (the Calendar view, and others as pane inside a "dashboard" type grid.

This works mostly well, the main issue is that on start up, each calendar will show the same view. Once you change it however, it sticks

w.r.t. your last 2 points, it should not be a problem to program in these features

p.s. Of course, another way to have multiple Calendars is to have multiple instances of IQ

Wow, I've finally understood Dashboards!

What has kept me from getting them before is that the main page on Dashboards in the manual does not contain any info on how to create or manipulate them. User has to open the (rather involved) example page "IQ as a Relational Database: Book Review Process" and read down quite to the end, which I never did before.

I think some of this information should be added to the main Dashboard help page or linked directly from there:

2.3 Overview Grid
The last grid will combine all the preceding ones in a unified view, using docking panes. That way, users can see all aspects in a single view, kind of a dashboard.

To create this view:

Create a new grid, named Overview
View > Grids and right-click on Authors. Select Copy View.
Back in the Overview grid, right-click on the tab and select Paste View
The Authors grid will be shown in a pane to the right edge of the Overview grid
Repeat the above procedure for the other grids
Rearrange panes to built a set-up close to the fist screenshot at the top of this page
(The end result will depend on how panes were actually rearranged)

n.b. The Overview grid itself is not really used, though users could enter management notes and instructions. Its main purpose is to be a placeholder for other grids

That would be great. As is, the month view really isn't very useful unless the calendar takes up at least half the screen. In the screenshot, it takes up around a fourth of the screen width and many events only show the appointment time and possibly some truncated information. A problem I am encountering is that when the item text begins with a short word or a single letter (to indicate some kind of GTD context), then the next word after that isn't shown at all if it doesn't fully fit into the box...

Another request of mine would be to somehow set multi-day events visually apart from the others. As it is, they often don't stand out very clearly.

As for

, can I have multiple instances of the same file open on the same computer without running into problems? Could I then also run IQ from two different program folders to be able to use different settings / permanent calendar view modes for the instance that I'd use to display the monthly calendar view?

Many thanks!

Comments noted.

Multi-instances works quite well, in particular if Tools > Options > Multi-User check is not disabled

As always, for multiple instances of grids, last save wins, so it is best to not make structure changes with multiple instances (or keep changes to the same instance)
