Synching using dropbox -- adding dropbox / IQ to a new machine (or new OS install)

1. Synchronization between computers using Dropbox says to put the synced IQ file in the same location on the second machine as on the first (see A.3 at above link) -- this is not possible on machine #2 here -- is this a problem?

Also I was wondering would  is itokay to use the IQ file directly from the dropbox folder?

Hi Tom,

I created a single dedicated IQ folder on Dropbox with a single working IQ file in that folder (plus the auto-generated sequential backups) and access it from two different computers and the baseline database file works well between the two computers, no lost data or corruption or other serious issues.

Only glitch I've encountered so far relates to work I do in the document pane, some aspects don't sync to the other computer because files are created outside the baseline database file, but I haven't spent any time troubleshooting that yet.

The trick is to set the .Files folder (Tools > Options > 2.4.10) to a subfolder of the Dropbox folder. Mine is C:\Users\PPL\Documents\Dropbox\IQBases\PPL.SNDB.Files

I do not put the main IQBase in the dropbox folder as this generates too much dropbox activity. Instead I have a folder for all sync files: C:\Users\PPL\Documents\Dropbox\IQBases\Sync

I updated the doc page for Dropbox sync: 1. Synchronization between computers using Dropbox

HTH !

Not really... 😮 :

The Sync and .Files folders shown will be those of PC1. If PC2 has a different folder structure, enter the correct folders

Regarding putting the IQBase directly in the Dropbox folder, it works... it even works well if it is small. It is unclear to me what the advantages are however

Hi Pierre

I wasn't clear enough:

There's two IQ files on each machine -- the one in Dropbox (A) and the one outside of Dropbox (B).

Now I'm wondering, does file B have to have the same path in both machines? I presume not, but in the manual, it just assumes I put both on the same place (in Documents folder) so was unclear to me.

How do I ?
