Sometimes when I create a subitem (Return>alt-right arrow), InfoQube shows two versions of the same item. These items have the same ID number. They remain in view until I delete one using delete>this view only.
This has been going on for months. It doesn't happen all the time but once it starts, it persists for some time. The effect appears to be localized (if I go to another part of the file, it doesn't do this).

So this is another one of…
So this is another one of those things that only I have? It happens to me virtually every day and it's pretty annoying to have my notes cluttered with duplicate items.
I wouldn't mind it so much if there was an easy way to make them go away. For a while I was using "remove in this location only" which did remove one of the dupes, but then that started removing both so I had to go retrieve the item to restore the grid assignment.
If anyone has an idea for making these go away, I'd appreciate it.

Hi Wayne,
I would need more information to determine if it is a bug, a characteristic or by design... Steps, screenshots, sample app, etc
p.s. also report the IQ version
I gave you a video of it in…
I uploaded a video of it in the original post showing every step and the result.
In the case shown in the video, when i created a blank subitem, it created two blank subitems. When I typed in the first, the text showed in both subitems.
If I remember right, it also sometimes happens when I move an item from TLI to subitem status. It creates a second item with the same text. It's not a separate item because they have the same ID number.
I'll update to see if that does anything but it has already persisted through a couple of updates.

True, but this doesn't help reproduce it, it only shows that it indeed happens
I don't understand what you…
I don't understand what you're asking for. The steps and screenshots are shown in the video. I don't know what you mean by "sample app".
Maybe it's clearer to to summarize in text:
1) Select existing item
2) Create new blank item [Ret]
3) Move new blank item to subitem status underneath the original existing item. InfoQube creates a second blank subitem (really the same subitem shown twice)
3) Type in first blank item. Text appears in both items.
4) Both items have same ID number.
Let me know if there's something else you need but I can't create the problem on demand.
What's most baffling to me is how most of my problems happen intermittently. If there were something wrong, why wouldn't it go wrong every time? They show, happen repeatedly over a span of minutes or hours, then go away for hours or days.

Try Ctrl+Enter to create a sub-item. This may solve your issue
w.r.t. your video, what is missing are items below to know when the duplicate appears (1- after enter or 2-after alt-right arrow)
by sample app, I mean a sample IQBase that has this problem
You're right; I should have…
You're right; I should have shown other items for reference.
I can't duplicate it in a sample file because it would take many hours and days of work to be able to say it wasn't going to happen there.
As I said, most of my problems are not reproducible. They come and go at wide intervals for unfathomable reasons.
The duplication occurs at the moment the item is moved underneath another item. It's one item as TLI, then splits into two items just as it's moved to subitem status.

That is valuable information, thanks
Questions for you:

1) I'll test this when the problem recurs. Right now, it's not doing it.
2) I can't remember but I do know that once it starts, it will create dupes for every new subitem created under the same parent after that. So I can end up with multiple sets of dupes under one parent.
I do remember that the problem is localized to one grid when it occurs. If I go to another grid, everything is working fine.

It started doing it again…
It started doing it again just now. Refreshing the grid did arrest the behavior this time. But I've tried refreshing many other times when it did not stop the problem.
The parent did not have existing subitems so I couldn't test #2.
Update: it just happened again. Refreshing the screen made the dupe disappear. That's twice in a row tthat's encouraging. Refreshing never worked previously, so maybe that'll be the answer going forward.

Update: problem persists now…
Update: problem persists now on 125.5, and is worse than ever. View is repeatedly spoiled by spurious items popping up. And it's not only when I create a new item.
Refreshing grid is no solution for me because too often I lose my work place (outline collapses to one level and focus moves to top item in the outline). Current "solution" is to move the dupe to subitem status under its dupe brother, then move it back to higher level. Sometimes this work, sometimes it doesn't.
I have encountered this…
I have encountered this problem, on occasion, over the past few years. In my case, a refresh (F5) of the grid always removes the duplicate (makes me think it is some sort of grid display rendering issue, i.e. IQ adds the item once in the database but renders it twice into the grid view(?)). I have looked for a pattern but have not found one (doesn't seem to relate to the IQ version, or to what I'm doing with IQ at the time, or ...). I'll keep an eye out for this problem going forward to collect more information about it. In the meantime, I can at least confirm that you're not the only one seeing it. I'm currently using 125.5, but I haven't noticed an uptick in the frequency of this problem with this version (so far).
