I'm trying to re-organize my tags using the tags grid and am having lots of problems.  Changes I make in the tags grid are not being reflected in the tab pane.

I've attached an example of this below.  When I move tags to subitem status in the Tags grid, they often disappear altogether from the Tags pane.

I re-read the manual section on tags and noted that they show all organization being down inside the Tags Pane.  I've always used the Tags grid.  That should work, right?

Hi Wayne,

Yes it should work just fine. Perhaps refresh the tags pane (right-click > refresh). Some changes are not reflected immediately (for performance reasons)

I did refresh the Tags Pane, as noted in my markup.

I'm not sure how Tags and TagID Columns would affect what I'm doing but i'll bring them up and see what I can figure out.

Update: OK, maybe i've got it: the subitems in the Tags were not assigned to the grid.  I think I was expecting the Tags Pane to behave like normal grids where subitems are displayed even when they're not assigned to the grid field.

I had quite a number of things happening I didn't understand so I'll work with this for a while to make sure it's resolved all my problems

Hi Wayne and Viking,

As written in 3. Tags, the main thing that "creates" a tag, is to assign the Tags field. It then auto-generates the TagID field value. Both of these are required for a functional tag.

  • The Tags pane handles this for you automatically
  • For the Tags grid, it is normally setup to automatically do 2 things:
    • Assign the grid source to all items created in this grid. This should assign the Tags field (Manage grid > Data > Auto-assign field list to all items...)
    • Lock the item, to prevent deleting items which are also tags
    • Now, these grid properties are not locked, so ensure that they are set correctly
  • The Tags pane shows only tags, not other items. So all tags must have values for Tags and TagID

HTH!

1. I created a new Tag "NewTag" at the bottom of the Tag Grid.
=> "NewTag" showed at the top of the Tag Pane.

2. I then created a subtag, "SubTag"  to "NewTag"
=> "SubTag" showed at the top of the Tag Pane, and "NewTag" moved down several positions in the Tag Pane (but not to the bottom)

3. I refreshed the Tag Pane (F5)
=> "SuBtag" then became a subitem of "NewTag" in the Tag Pane

Question: When a new Tag is created in the Tag Grid, what determines it's position in the Tag Pane?

I can't post until I have a comment approved, so here's the comment. I'm trying to float panes in the demo database, but I can't undock them via Shift + F11, the View menu, or drag and drop. I can move them, but they always snap in place.

Thanks Pierre, I took your suggestion over at Outliner and gave it a shot =). I can't seem to get anything to float, no matter what view. I made my own database with a new portable download and it still didn't work, and now I'm having trouble pasting the map view at all.

I've also been try to figure out inking and icons. Do I just have to locally install the free ink editor in order to get the ink documents? Also, after a lot of experimenting I've found that icons are one of the ways I keep track of/identify my tasks best. How do I get icons in the task/item name or as a field/item that universally shows up with it?

Thanks!

Hi,

  1. Your links do not work. Can you use other image links to upload them to this site? We also have a Discord server, it can be more interactive
  2. Yup, follow these instructions: InfoQube Program Install and Set-up
  3. Show the Formatting toolbar, when editing, you'll see a command to insert an icon in the text. You can also use the Item Editor for that purpose
