I would like to use some of my contacts in the address book as Tags.
I copied the contacts (drag/drop+Ctrl) to the Tag Grid and this created the Tags as I wanted.
They also show up in the Tag Pane.

I just want to confirm that this will not cause any issues, and that I will be able to use the Tags as "normal"?

p.s. When the contacts are dragged as subTags, I need to remember to check the Tags field so that the TagID is created.

EDIT: I already found something strange: I created a contact as a subTag in the Tag Grid and everything seemed fine. However, I then created subitems for the contact in the Addressbook. That caused the subTag to become a TLI in the Tag Grid. I had to move it back as a subTag in the Tag Grid.

Why did  this happen? Fortunately, it seemed to only happen the first time. Subsequent additions of subitems under the contact did not seem to affect the item in the Tag Grid.

While it will work, I don't think it is a good idea to use regular items (contacts or other item types) as tags:

  1. Tag hierarchy is useful and not related to your contact hierarchy, making changes could re-arrange your info
  2. Deleting items deletes tags, deleting a tag deletes a contact item, etc

That it is possible to do, does not mean that it is wise to do it...

How do I ?
