In some later IQ version, I notices that the background color of the selected item was dark blue (and text is no longer white). I changed the color to cyan, but the color now just flashes when selecting the item. Going back to dark blue does not help.

I'm sure this has nothing to do with Select color... Must be another setting you may have changed.
Perhaps switch the column to use WYSIWYG editor, perhaps turn off the "bullet" outline label
If you can identify, please let me know, I'll try to reproduce it
