For the item field, you can select items and right-click > Info
For the Doc pane, there isn't a command. You can however show the ItemHTMLText column in a grid and the above command will work (up to 2000 chrs)
w.r.t. to finding a daily value, if you combine this with the Journal grid, you can get the list of items created / modified today and get an idea of how many words were written
