When I delete a field in field management, it deletes fine. But if I click Save, the field I deleted, renames the next field down.

I think I renamed some fields inadvertently this way, and I believe that's what is causing the errors I sent you via email. I can't get into quite a few of my grids now.

[edit ] I found I had a recent backup; I'm up and running again. (But the bug does need looked at eventually)

I agree that this problem needs to be addressed. This one and all quirks in the Grid management dialog -- there are 2 IIRC.
Another one in the field management window is that I usually can't  -- haven't verified at this moment -- delete a field that's not associated with any items.

Keith, does this always happen or only occasionally ?
Would people recommend we not delete any fields till this is fixed ? (The worst thing is, it sounds like that if I delete one field, I might not notice for a long time afterwards that things have gone wonky)

Seems to me like this is a very urgent problem (I presume it's in Mantis if you knew about it Armando?)

I just tried it with a blank database--it does the same thing: delete the comment field, then click save; then the next field down becomes the comment field. It looks like it picks up its ID, and system field coloring.

Another easy workaround for that bug, is to rename the fields instead of deleting them. Add zzz at the start of the field name and these will be grouped at the end.

Pierre, should I list the few problems with the "manage grids" dialog or are you already aware of them ?
I also think that both dialogs should follow exactly the same UI "logic", which isn't exactly the case at this point.

If you don't mind, I'd like to concentrate on releasing the next version. If it isn't a real bug, I'll address this later

Well, of course I don't mind. :)

For the record :

( + There should be an autosave option in the grid management dialog too )
(+ manage grids UI should have buttons positiond like the field management dialog -- BTW, I never understood why buttons were put at the top in the field management window. I know some asked for it, but it's not standard at all... or is it ?)
(+ creating a new grid should follow a process similar than creating a new field -- right now these similar actions require different UI process, which feels awkward.)
there are more but these are the ones I can think of right now...

There is at least one bug in the manage grids dialog.

- Deleting grids or changing names, etc. Sometimes (always ?) deletions/changes are not saved. It might have to do with not saving in between each operation.

Regarding "fied management" :

1- it's impossible to delete a field that's not associated to any item.
2- If i create two fields (save between each operation), delete one of them, save, the field that's been deleted will reappear, and the other one will disappear... However it's still there but invisible as IQ will refuse to create anotherone with the same name (complaining that it still exists... Maybe these are not the exact steps -- I'd have to spend some time on that to isolate all occurrences of these similar bugs.). Of course , if you close the dialog, and ropen it, all these newly created & deleted fields will reappear... as they're not associated with any item... yet (see bug 1)

I think there's another small bug but can't remember... maybe later this evening.

This is now fixed. Next release is coming soon...
