I experimented with other ways to access many grids.  This latest attempt, setting up via nested menus by ABCs, and with a couple of most-used menus at the top, is working out great:

This took a moderate amount of work; I'd suggest eventually making IQ set up the ABC items automatically from whatever grids exist.

Also, if it could pick up the "description" under the manage grids on mouseover, that would be even better.

That looks very nice Keith. Good idea !

One thing that would help tremendously is if the menu had a more sophisticated "search as you type"-- like the WikiTag dropdown menu. Have asked that for a while... ;)

Looks very nice Keith
would be great if
  • Ctrl+Shift+O opened menu
  • then typing e.g. 'a' would open the A menu
  • then (as Armando requests) typing e.g. 'd' (or maybe 'ad') would focus on Address grid, etc

Very neat, indeed. Do you prefer this to assigning shortcut keys? If so, why?

I don't use shortkeys much, since I have 47 grids, and use the majority of them regularly. (And I'm continually changing things).

I'm just looking for something to bring a little order to quickly finding grids, that works for me.  (As I learn filtering more, I may go to less grids)..

"Search as you type" would probably be the quickest -- what I do, even if not optimal with the current implementation. Shortcut keys for 47 grids (I've got 70) would effectively not be very practical... :)

geez .... all those grids. I know we all work differently. I can't imagine working with all those grids as I might forget what grid had what.  Not a negative on your style, just a comment about my own lack of organization I guess. I'll  have to think about this for a bit. Can either of you give me some examples of grids that you maintain besides the usual like contact list..... or do you break up your contact list into 26 different grids?

out of all these grids there are probably only 20-23 that I regularly use. I need to do some clean up... but... at the same time there are grids I don't use anymore but which would be useful to view older projects. I should just archive them -- maybe as Keith did...

I guess it's just a matter of how many different projects you use IQ for (some have understandable names, others... well... :) ):

This is roughly my current grids, most are still being used, and most should be self-explanatory.
I enjoyed reading about Armando's-anyone else care to put their list?  It may help generate ideas.

Bookmarks ("favorites") is a grid of URL's that I commonly use- that's inwork to make a bookmark manager.
breaker_box is experimental-a listing of the circuits in my breaker box, to compare to what I had in a spreadsheet.
JustCreated-I don't remember what that was for exactly, but it was a forum topic.
PW is a password list (they are in code, rather than encrypted)
Sharpening_book is a book I had, in which I took digital pictures of all the pages, for markup, and then linked to. Like taking a book and marking it up with a highlighter

I had thought previously of putting a table in the manual somewhere, of suggested additional grids, but hadn't got to it yet.
