Two questions in regards to Forms.

1. Is there a way to select multiple fields (<control><select>) at once?
2. When I added new fields to a form and hit Apply, the form did not update. I had to close and open IQ for the new fields to take.

Thanks
Al

Comments

  1. Currently this is not possible, but it could be added in the future
  2. This is now fixed (Pre-Rel4)

Hi Pierre
I was trying to find some info on how the system fields are used, but had no luck. Could you aim somewhere?
thanks

I'm not sure I understand your question... General info or specific to a particular field?

There is some general info in: System Fields...

Boy, I couldn't find that link? I just imported my phone book from Ecco and I noticed that some of the folders that were brought over with the import were similar to some of the system field. I will be deleting old fields and/or copying data over to appropriate to IQ fields. I just wanted to understand better what I was messing with. Is there a way to do a batch copy from one field to another field, e.g. Mobile No to Cell #. How can I place all of the items for a given field in a scratch gird. I tried using the 'Show all items with values for this field,' but didn't get much in the name of results.

Very easy. In your scratch grid (if you want, but could be in your adressbook grid...)

Preparation (just in case) :

1- Make sure all the items you want to change the data from one field to the other are there, sorted (alphabetically, maybe -- you could write "item" in the sort box). It's going to be more efficient that way.

If you need help to be able to display all of them in one grid, don't hesitate to ask...

2- Make sure both field/columns you want to exchange info from are in the grid. (if not you can Drag both of them from the properties pane into the grid -- the column headers, more precisely... Then put the columns side by side)

You might need to close and reopen the grid to make sure that the data in these new columns are up to date. It used to be a problem, maybe not anymore. Can't check now.

Action :

1- Select the first to the last item's field/colum you want to copy all the info from : copy

2- Select the first to the last item's field/colum you want to paste the info in : paste.

IQ will offer "Paste each line into separate items, creating items if necessary". This is the right option to select here.
That's it...

Try with a few test items first as there are no undos for these actions...

Sorry, didn't see that question.

In the scratch grid's source or filter, just write the name of the field all these items have in common. If you want all the items with something in the "Cell" field (just an example) to be displayed in the grid, just write "Cell" (without the quotes).

You could experiment with the advanced search (ctrl-shift-s ?)and have the results displayed in the scratch grid (careful not to delete the sources from the other grids by using the advanced search though ! it's easy to revert but might be frightening when you're not familiar with it...). Then look at what's in the source bar (alt-s). This is a good way to learn the filtering + source syntax. It's not very complicated for most everyday usage. Source is usually just a field name, or, if it's more complex, fields with Boolean operators like OR or AND : Cell AND HomePhone AND Contact.

In any case, I suggest you have a look at the manual, in general for filtering examples, field descriptions, etc.

[Edit : it's late and can't write English anymore... had to correct a few terrible mistakes...]

I'll go get some sleep but... This, what you tried ('Show all items with values for this field,'  .... when you right click on a field in the properties pane) should work ... If there's data in that specific field, that is. If there's nothing... Well nothing will happen.

Results will show up in the scratch grid.
