Hyperlinks in the outliner are not working at all. I can not insert them via context menu and I can not activate them (with or without pressing ctrl).

- For example, I tried to insert a hyperlink to a file or to an Item by using the context menu in the outliner. When I choose an item, it shows all relevant features (Hyperlink Text and Filename or Item ID but it does not create a hyperlink after clicking on "OK"-Button.
- Moving a file into the outliner does not work. It shows the Symbol with the arrow, but when I release the mouse button, no hyperlink appears.
- Activating external hyperlinks to websites are working in the IQ-Documentation file is working, but I can not insert external hyperlinks by myself.

- Inserting pictures or tables is working.

Edit with MSWord or with BlockNote is not working either. When I press the icon in the menu button, nothing happens. (The relevant paths in the Option Menu are set correctly).

- I have tried 0.9.25PreRel25 and 0.9.25PreRel27
- I am using MSOffice 2007

What am I doing wrong? Without the hyperlink-feature the program is worthless to me.

there were problems with linking introduced a recent version (it may have been the 'pre25' version). They've been reported as fixed since - working for me here but that doesnt help you much...
I'm using Version 0.9.25Pre-Rel27 build 2010-07-10 00:44:46 (from the 'about' window).

Trying this stuff out on my usual install:

1) hyperlink via item context menu:- it's working here for Item IDs & for file paths

2) drag drop file link is working here

3) do you mean in the html pane?

5) Confirmed for Block Note - I dont have Word
[edit] for some reason my blocknote path is gone (& I believe it's my error ) [/edit]

Everything works here, so you're probably doing something differently. It'S also possible that some dialogs could be improved to avoid that situation.

I'm not sure what you did, but all these work here :

If you select the whole cell of the item, then when you click on "Hyperlink" from the item's context menu (ctrl+k), the "Hyperlink Text" will be autofilled in the dialog. Then you need to fill the other text box with the relevant info (for example, I just entered C:\Program Files\ColorMania\ColorMania.exe which is a program). That's it.

If you are in edit mode (F2) You need to select at least a word or two for the "Hyperlink Text" to be autofilled. Other wise you have to fill it with some text yourself.

Tell us in details what you did, it'll be easier to know what's happening.

Links trigger with a single click BTW, no need for ctrl click, etc.

Normally the "File Link" dialog appears. It works perfectly here. Just fill the text box with the name you want to appear in the cell.

Tell us what you did exactly because I'm not sure what could have gone wrong.

This works, but you need to specify the path in Tools (menu) -> "options" -> Other -> MS Word Path dialog.

[Edit : removed all extra spaces between paragraph... dunno what went wrong]

the 'File Link' dialogue should be activated by default, but it can be turned on in Options > Modes >Show dialog on file drag-drop. That may help. (It sounds like you're familiar with that but mention it in case it has an effect).

Re adding links via context menu:
if you dont have text selected, you will have to add text to the 'Hyperlink Text' in the dialogue box.  BTW - apologies if I'm telling you stuff you already know.

Which version are you using - portable or install? (I always use portable myself so cant comment on the install version).

Hi Tom, I didn't see your previous post after posting mine... Sorry! Guess we posted almost at the same time.

Those last points you made are important : the fact that no hyperlink will appear if you don't have any selected text and don't add text in the "Hyperlink Text" text box.

Which gives me the idea that, maybe a default text could always be present in the dialog. Maybe something like :

"Link description", which would be pre-selected and so the user wouldn't have to erase first, but just start typing over it. And in the advent that the user forgot to enter something etc., the link wouldn't be blank in the cell, and appear as Link description .

Thanks Tom and Armando for your help. Unfortunately allmost nothing was really helpfull. I am using Treepad Enterprise Edition for more than 6 years. InfoQube-hyperlinking seems to work quite similar to the Treepad-hyperlinking, so I'm very familiar with that.

I have tried everything I can think of with InfoQube:
- I tried inserting a Link Description. Didn't work.
- I have marked a word for converting it to a hyperlink. Didn't work.
additionally:
- I used the "select Items"-button. Didn't work.
- I used the "insert File"-button. Didn't work.
additionally:
- I have set the paths for MSWord and BlockNote correctly. Didn't work.

Now. I have installed the MOBILE VERSION of InfoQube and things seem to be improving!!!! :-)
- Editing with MSWord and with BlockNote now WORKS!
- At least hyperlinking now works if I insert the Item-ID :-) but not with  "select Items"-button :-(
- Activating hyperlinks requires pressing the ctrl-button :-(  Only by pressing the button, the mouse arrow changes.
-  "insert File"-button works :-)
- Inserting a hyperlink to a file by moving the file into the html-pane still does not work. A window does not appear :-(.
- Inserting a hyperlink to a file by moving the file into the grid works. the window is opening.

Hope I could help with debugging...
best, Mark

I tried everything... And they all  worked. But I'm not using the portable version. Maybe there are some issues with the installable one.

Pierre should then take care of that or just remove it from the downloadable section.

>-At least hyperlinking now works if I insert the Item-ID :-) but not with  "select Items"-button :-(

Here's a little screencast to show you that this works too :

> Activating hyperlinks requires pressing the ctrl-button :-(  Only by pressing the button, the mouse arrow changes.

This might be true in the HTML pane, but not in the grid. At least not on my computer.

> Inserting a hyperlink to a file by moving the file into the html-pane still does not work. A window does not appear :-(.

This hasn't been implemented so of course it won't work. You'd like to see the link to the file inside the HTML pane, not in the grid ?

Thanks for all your comments. They can just help making IQ better !! :)

P.S. : Keep in mind that Treepad has reached v. 7.14, while IQ hasn't reached V.1 yet... There are some bugs, as you noticed -- although I haven,t been able to reproduce those. Also... I use IQ every day, several hours a day, so it must be working a tiny bit.

Ok, thats very instructive. What I desperately need is linking in the html pane. Does this work on your computer? Here is my screencast:

P.S. It sounds very promising, that you are using IQ every day. I would like to do that, too. Does it replace Outlook (calendar, tasks, mails) in your working flow?

BTW, I use IQ everyday for everything:
research
writing articles
daily journal
ToDo's
Calendar appts
clipping from web & other sources
email notices
linking (except creating new one in HTML pane :)
address book / contact list

I see Jan posted just now... Jan, I think that you were thinking like I did : drag and drop file to the HTML pane. Yes, this hasn't been implemented. The hyper linking through the inside HTML pane context menu is implemented though.

I never used that option before as I don't make a big use of the HTML pane. I'm more a "grid type". :)

SO yes, that's a very reproducible bug. Thanks MarkyMark, I'll enter it in Mantis. That and maybe something about the installable version.

BTW : made a stupid mistake in my last post : meant that I'm using only the portable version. Sorry about that.

Spoke too fast. I can't reproduce this exact same one, but found another one. It just happened that a link was created near a bullet in the pane, but link appeared empty and unclikable in the end.

I think it's probably related to the HTML code. Maybe will I have the time to look at that.

(But, in the screencast, here's the same item etc. and I can't reproduce what you just showed)

I can confirm that one - adding hyperlink to a selected word in the html pane using [Select Items] button doesnt work

I'm not sure what you mean by this line:

In the html pane here I only have a cursor - no mouse arrow as such, except when going over selected text. When I press Ctrl while over a link I get 'the hand'

Armando has answered this except I cant see it (not sure was this the same as above or for the grid)
"At least hyperlinking now works if I insert the Item-ID :-) but not with  "select Items"-button :-("

EDIT/ I'm not commenting on the install version as I havent used it

Ok, I fixed the flash screencast thing. I made the mistake of uploading the file through another method that doesn't work. One needs to upload the file in the web window (there's an upload button at the bottom), not through the 1st dialog that appears when you click on the "insert/edit flash" button.

The method is to use the Info tab to do it... Here's a screecast showing how to do it...

Bizarre - it's one for Pierre cause I can reproduce it - I mean I simply cannot create a link that way with new install & sample database - I can also reproduce it with my working IQ. Did you try it in a clean install or in you're working one? It might be you have some setting enabled that makes it work?

That I dont understand. In the grid text can only be 255 characters long. How can you work with that. By using the grid as an outliner you can only write very short paragraphs.

BTW. I'm looking forward for the "Multi-item HTML editing" (0177, http://mantis.sqlnotes.net/view.php?id=177). With this you get a true outliner every writer (like me) is looking for. Together with the MSWord-IQ back-forth syncronization-feature (I cant remember where I have read about that), the full wiki-feature and the footnote-feature (which are not fully implemented yet, as far is I know?) IQ would be a writers/researchers dream (dont underestimate the strategic importance of these features ).

Where did you get that idea ? My biggest item field contains, 10 265 character. A bit more than 255... There's a slight problem though : I can't see more than 2049 character in the grid though. I never talked to Pierre about it... Don't remember if that's an actual limitation or what...

But 2049 character is certainly acceptable.

Yes, these are important features

1- "Multi-item HTML editing" (0177, http://mantis.sqlnotes.net/view.php?id=177).

Not implemented yet.

2- MSWord-IQ back-forth syncronization-feature

Not sure what you mean.

There's this :
 0491ExportDirect Export to Word  [InfoQube]
New feature
minornew  2008-08-14 13:46PPL

Which is different.

The Editing the HTML content in MS Word feature works though.

This could certainly be an option in the HTML pane. I don't think it exists.

Note that if you turn ON browse mode  in the HTML pane (content isn't editable when you turn that on), clicking on links doesn't require pressing ctrl.

I personally like having to press on CTRL.  I wouldn't like NOT having to press ctrl. :) It's pretty much a standard... started with MS Word I believe. From the beginning, the idea was to prevent accidental browsing when editing.

Yes, its the search pane.

- In the Context Menu select "Hyperlink"
- In the Hyperlink Window select "Select Items"
- Then the quick search pane appears. There is the option for "Sync Panes". If that option is activated, the html-pane in the background will allways change, thus making inserting hyperlinks not possible. - Thats the bug!

ah, okay. All is klar :-)

This is a limitation of being in edit (normal) mode as opposed to being in browse mode. AFAIK if you change the html pane to browse mode, the setting will stick, and will respond as you want. Browse mode is accessible via context menu or Menu >View

MHT as you probably know, is not editable in the pane. The limitation of html (at the moment) is that you cant add images to the pane/content. Capture from the web links to the online images (I have little clue about html in general myself). If you want to store images locally (whether clipped from web or added yourself) save web content as MHT.
