Example "address book or contact list"
if user has an entry which is also a link to a website
item does not appear in grid filtered by alpha filter

You mean, as an example :
 
1- Alphanumeric filter =  a*
 
2- and an item such as  <a href=test>Allo</a>  wouldn't show...
 
I agree that this is an issue. It makes filter usage more complex than it should.

Yes, that's EXACTLY what I mean.
