I was working with the import functionality today to bring a small Excel list into IQ, and have a couple of minor changes to suggest:

  1. Import Location - When starting the import process, I first selected the item in my grid where I wanted the items imported.  I noticed that IQ always imported below the item I selected.  Most other applications I've ever worked with import into the selection point, not below it.  Suggestion:  modify import behavior to import at the item currently selected.
  2. Header row and row count - On import step 1, I pasted in 15 excel items, and selected the "First row contains field names" option and clicked Next.  On step 2, it properly showed the first row of my data as the field name, but then left a blank extra entry at the bottom (see item #15 in the screenshot).  A little testing revealed that indicating the first row is a field name should result in the number of rows to import being one less than the selection area, but it is not.
  3. Destination field vs. Current Field - Another change that I think helps would be to change the name of the header of the destination field for the import.  The header is labelled "current field", which is a bit confusing.....Current field currently selected in my InfoQube?  Current field where?  Changing the title to "Destination Field" would make it clearer that I am being asked to select what the destination field for the import is:

  4. Final Import Preview - When previewing the final import, The count again shows 15 records to import, whereas in reality there are only 14 since the header row does not import.  Perhaps addressing change #2 above would also fix this?

  5. Import verification screen also shows 15 records instead of 14:

  6. Combined Effect - Not imported where I selected, and extra row at the bottom due to header row designation in import wizard.

  7. I haven't used the Mantis bug report system here before.  Should this all be one item or two?  Can anyone verify the same results I found?

Thanks, and keep up the great work PPL!  InfoQube gets better all the time!

Is anyone else able to verify these bugs?  Amando?

That's weird... I thought I had answered here ! :) In any case... Yes, I can confirm that problem (the extra empty imported item, etc.) BTW : Thanks a lot for your excellent and super precise bug report!

Thanks for the reply Armando!!

Should I wait for PPL to chime in or how to I make sure it is listed as a bug and not just an entry in the forums?

Again, appreciate the reply!  The folks on this forum are the greatest!

Hi PIMFan !

I've seen this, and the fix should be easy.

Thanks for a crystal-clear report.

Hi PIMfan, I often take the time to enter all bugs and suggestions in the official Mantis record -- once every week or every other week. But... Of course, users can do this themselves. It's not complicated and can be done quickly once you get used to it. Here are some guidelines : Bug reporting procedure Here's the link to the Mantis bug/requests tracker : http://mantis.sqlnotes.net/login_page.php Thanks !

Hi PIMfan,

Thanks for such a crystal clear report.

All of these issues are resolved in v0.9.25L, with the exception of (1): location of the imported items in the grid (i.e. order in the grid). In IQ, order is determined by the sort criteria, so a refresh will / could change this order. If no sort order is specified, date created is used (hence, the imported items appearing at the end.
