Renaming system items

Submitted by davet on 2011/05/31 10:17
Users do dumb things..some times they are idiots (aka fools). I renamed the System item "ThisWeek" to "Test". I don't remember why. But later I started getting errors saying that a calculation could not be done due to a missing "ThisWeek" item. Since I'd made this change many days ago, I'd forgotten all about it. Consequently, It took me a long to find out that the item "Test" needed to be changed back to "ThisWeek." So, It seems to me that idiot/fool proofing needs to be implemented here. That is users should be able to change a system item's Caption but not its Name...IMHO.

Hi Dave,
Strangely, I thought that renaming system fields was disabled in the past... I'm quite surprised!
So you make a good point: I don't think we should be able to rename those fields as it will most likely break things...
Pierre should be able to look at that in about a week.
Thanks.

Hi Pierre,
Do you have an opinion on that one ? Mantis ?

System fields can be renamed. And this needs to be that way so users of different languages can feel "at home".

What needs implementing is to update references in other fields / grids , etc. (and yes, this can be put in Mantis)

(and preventing renaming would not solve the same issue with user-defined fields...)
