I opened the grid. Normally there are 5-8 columns. What appears you can see below. This problem occurs only occasionally. I can reconstruct this grid but it's a PITA.  It may have something to do with IQ being closed down incorrectly. The only thing I can point to is that overnight windows d/l and updated & reset my system. IQ was still open when I left last night.  Auto save is set for every 15 mins.dB options.

08/28/12 bumped - anyone with any other ideas in regards to this issue? Pierre?
09/14/12 bumped - Pierre I think this problem deserves some attention. I'm not the only one. Tks.
09/22/12 bumped - Windows updated & re-started computer overnight. The incomplete view is the same one.
10/11/12 bumped - Windows updated & re-started computer overnight. The incomplete view is the same one & not the one in focus
11/17/12 bumped - Windows updated & re-started computer overnight. Again, the same view appeared incomplete
11/30/12 bumped - working on grid, closed it & re-opened grid. All but outline column gone even though this is reported fixed in 9.26 pre-rel 5
11/30/12 bumped - working on grid, changed a column property (duedate) all columns except for item disappeared (first time THAT happened but same result)
12/01/12 bumped - working on grid, changed date format option, all columns except for item disappeared AGAIN !!! @#$%&*(&^%$
12/05/12 bumped - See www.sqlnotes.net/drupal5/index.php  for the sad details

Comments

I had the same thing yesterday with the earlier version of W10. First time it had happened to me, 20-odd columns vanishing. As far as I know the file had been closed correctly. Luckily I was able to go back to a previous version in Dropbox with minimal data loss. Certainly less time wasted than if I had to re-create those columns.

John, you mention 'data loss' when I don't think you really meant that. I'm sure you know your data wasn't lost, just wasn't visible.

Thanks for posting a foloup. I guess it's not connected to IQ closing properly. Hmmmmm. Maybe Pierre can figure something out. It's just plain odd behavior

True... it does occur but rarely and it's hard to track down

How about if grid setups were saved and if one could revert to a previous one ?
(and why not, eventually, navigate through a history of grid configs...)

This might kill 2 birds with a stone (what a horrible expression, isn't ?)

Pierre,

I think your solution is an excellent one.

For those odd events it would simplify regenerating the grids.

Personally, I don't think you need to go beyond having IQ remember the last setup.

Happened to me a couple times this month also.

I would LOVE to be able to save grid layouts.  Here it grid switching on uservoice - http://mantis.sqlnotes.net/view.php?id=1105 - not sure where it is on mantis (or if anyone is really looking at it).

PS, Here is the disappearing columns on mantis - http://mantis.sqlnotes.net/view.php?id=1105.

Jan,
In this case there was some data loss - the entries I had made in updates subsequent to the Dropbox version I had to revert to to retrieve the correct grid. Luckily there weren't many and even more luckily I remembered what they were!

Jon,
What do you mean by data loss ? Actual items, gone ? Or simply grid column configuration ? Item loss was never reported for that problem (which I experienced too, a while ago), only grid column configuration. That would mean an entire problem all together.

I think he means, that reverting to a previous version (through dropbox), he lost the entries done since that dropbox version

Of course, there were ways to avoid this, but the issue of grid column list being reset MUST get fixed. That's my job...

That's right Pierre, IQ didn't lose anything, just having to go back in time to restore.

Program closed improperly by power interruption & when I re-started everything, IQ seemed ok but when I opened 2nd view, all but one column had disappeared

The Damned thing did it AGAIN !!.
And it was a complex view set up.  VERY ANNOYING !!
Pierre PLS FIX !!
Thank you.

Pierre,

I'm sorry to inform you that item #1
Fixed: More robust method to save grid column list (see Disappearing columns are still with us. v9.26 pre-release4&5 ** VERY ANNOYING ** PLEASE FIX THIS !!! )
is NOT fixed.

I opened my grid which only contained the TLI's
I added columns via context menu "Add/Remove columns"
Then I set about arranging those columns.
The item column was the 3rd column by the time I finished re-arranging so I marked it the outline column via context menu "Set Tree column"
I noticed that I had included an extraneous column and needed another one so I hid the extraneous column & used "Add/Remove columns" to add the missing column
I clicked "OK" in the field dialog
All OTHER columns except for the item column & the one that I added as an after thought vanished !!

12/07/12 bumped: I think this last experience has something to do w saving
I think it probably happens during saving as well since I can open the same file multiple times and the columns are still gone. And I very rarely see them disappear when working.

I had it happen today, but I have not upgraded from Pre-Rel3.

One work around I have is to duplicate the Grid. I don't always remember to do that though. What I really want is a columns history like we have for source filters/sorts. I mentioned that in one of the many threads on this subject. Might be better  if we stuck to just one thread to discuss this.
