While the scratch grid can sometimes be useful, it rarely is for displaying hyperlinks "content" -- at least in my experience. Items are almost best seen in the right context, and that means the right grid with the right set of columns.

It's too long and annoying to transform the scratch grid into any meaningful way for every hyperlink I click.

Since the item's "home grid" can be defined for any item, couldn't hyperlinks open in home grids ? At least as an option ? Same for clickable parents and sibblings in the properties pane (there, there could definitely be an option : open in scratch grid vs open in home grid.)

Thoughts ?

Yes, this is an excellent idea. I have struggled with this problem too but without a useful solution I did not post. Thank you Armando.

Excellent idea !

I've included it in v0.9.26pre-rel14

can someone refresh my memory: how is this done?

I see "Show in HomeGrid" in the "Item" menu (edit; which oddly, opens the html pane here).
Cant find anything about it on the forum or in help.

Thanks!

You have 2 ways to set the home grid:
  1. If the item is being viewed in its home grid, you can set it as a favorite item. The ItemHomeGrid field will be automatically filled. You can unset the item as a favorite item if you want. The ItemHomeGrid value will remain.
  2. You can enter the name of the home grid in the ItemHomeGrid field for that item. Using the properties pane, you can set this value for many items in a single step.
HTH !

#2 is what I do.

E.g.
1-select items in a grid,
2-in the properties pane, in the ItemHomeGrid field, write the exact grid name where these items should be opened when their corresponding hyperlink is clicked.

I wonder if the itemHomeGrid Field could/should be put in the item properties section of the properties pane, to make it more visible/obvious.

You can set it to be visible there. Use the field properties..

Yes, of course. I meant by default. Otherwise, with all the fields down there, only a geek would notice it.

the itemhomeGrid field still goes completely unnoticed. I often use it to make sure some hyperlinks will show items in specific grids instead of the scratch grid; I might be the only one though...
Wondering if it could sport a dropdown of available grids ? would make it more user friendly, and its use would be more obvious.

Hi Pierre,

In the same vein, since it's possible to open different search results (from the quick search) in new (different) search grids, I think it would be very helpful be able to do the same with the scratch grid. (I.e. Opening various results/links in multiple scratch grids.)

Use case:
- When working in the scratch grid (or even from the properties pane) and clicking on a link: opening a new scratch grid instead of refreshing the current one (losing the current displayed items) would often be useful.

Also, a dialog asking "open in a new scratch grid?" (or something along those lines) would allow the user to choose the preferred behaviour.

Thanks!
