It appears that the delete command is not working In the HTML pane.  If I place my cursor in the HTML edit window and press "delete" it should start removing spaces one at at time.  It doesn't.  Also, If I select a word and press "Delete", nothing happens.

Spaces and words can only be deleted by backspacing.  Not a big deal but delete and backspace work in slightly different ways and both should be available because one can be more convenient than the other, depending on where your cursor is.

Update:  after not working repeatedly over a several day period, it's suddenly back to working every time.  I don't know why it wasn't working nor why it started working.

Hi Wayne,
I see things seem to be working now.
I wasn't able to reproduce the problem here, so let's wait and see if i comes back.
I've had a few transient keyboard issues here; haven't been able to see what the common thread is, yet, but it could be related... or not.

Windows 8.1
Sony Vaio S Series 13 (SVS131E21L)
Ram:8gb, CPU: Intel i5-3230M, 2.6ghz

And it's back to not working again.  Quite annoying because I'm deleting things all day log and the extra steps to uses backspace slow me down

Strange. A few questions for you:
  1. Program restart does not solve the issue ?
  2. Reboot solves the issue ?
  3. Sample IQBase solves the issue ?
  4. Current file with a previous version has this issue ?
  5. Fresh portable install to a new folder solves the issue ?

Continues to be an annoyance.  #1, #2, and #3 all "solve" the problem but it returns a short while later.  Did not try #4 and #5 yet.

Am I the only one experiencing this problem?  It's really an annoyance.  Re-starting InfoQube solves the problem but it returns a few minutes later, every time.  Really should be fixed unless it's a problem only with my system.

The "problem" is that I don't work in the HTML pane. I mostly work in the grid. I use the HTML pane mostly to clip web pages, articles and put pictures. All text work is done in the grid. Even thesis, novel, whatever... work.
So... I don't experieence that. Will see if I do.

Thanks, Amando.  I'm still working out how to best organize notes in InfoQube.  I really like the way the HTML pane is set up.  I find myself using the grid for "bullet points" and the HTML pane for detailed notes.  When I try to put everything in the grid I end up with a cluttered look (to my eye).  I have the same problem in Ecco Pro.

It just seems to be a cleaner look (again, for me) to have notes organized in bulleted lists with divider lines between them.

I also like the flexibility of the HTML pane:  I can use other programs to organize info (eg Excel) and copy/paste the result into the pane.

Wayne, I think you are the first person actively posting in the forum who is really using the html pane -
hence you've been having all the 'fun' finding the bugs...

Over the years, there has been many users who we're using extensively the HTML pane, mostly coming from UR or Evernote.

I'm not a big user of the HTML pane either, I prefer the flexibility of the grid but then again, I'm not a writer either.

I'll keep an eye open and try to find the cause. It is the only key which stops working ?

Yes, delete is the only key I've noticed not working.

I'm not sure I'll stick with this note-taking format but I'm a little surprised others aren't using the HTML pane more.  The two-pane outliner seems to be the default
approach for information managers these days.

No need to change anything, if it works for you...
The whole concept behind IQ is to not force users into a specific information management structure !
And rest assured, we'll eventually track down the delete key issue
Let me first release v0.9.26PreRel31 and then I'll send you a debug version to isolate the issue.

> I know Armando uses the grid for (creative) writing - [have you posted specifically about that Armando?] Advantage in the grid being that one can move items/lines-of-text up or down, and group them into chapters/whatever.

I might have given details somewhere... Don't remember.

But, yes, I do almost everything in the Grid, including writing long essays, plays and other stuff. Of course, I usually have to transfer the text to MS Word for the finishing touch, etc.

Basically -- as far as writing goes --  I use IQ to structure my ideas, classify themes and citations, write the draft and more. I've created a way of managing citations and references in IQ, grouping them under themes, etc. and so it makes it easier to draft in IQ. Explaining the whole process would be a bit long, but it gives an idea.

What will be a big revolution for me -- and also potentially for other users... -- is the ability to work in IQ and MS Word at the same time : Pierre once talked about transposing the grid's content/outline in Word. Moving stuff in  Word would be reflected in the grid and vice versa. That would be extremely useful... If it works well, of course.

As it is now, my work flow isn't optimal : there's some reformatting and citation work involved etc., but it's the best I've found at the moment. Nothing's perfect...

The academic world needs a better way of managing info, references, etc. and using it.

there's a software called IdeaMason which I was very interested in (2007), but I found it too rigid at the time. It got somewhat abandoned bu it seems that it got back on track -- not sure when. It doesn't seem to be actively developed though.

Hi Wayne,

In v0.9.26PreRel32, I trap the delete key and execute the delete command. Hopefully, that will resolve the issue

Pierre,

Just as a follow up: Rel. 32 did not solve the delete problem for me.

What a bummer !
The problem is that I was never able to reproduce the issue...

Back to the drawing board...

Thanks anyway for reporting

Thanks, Pierre.  If I find some pattern to it that might help you reproduce it I'll let you know.  Re-starting InfoQube fixes it but it always returns at some point.

OK.  I appreciate the effort.  After 32 is released, I'll get back to you if crops up again.
