This with Hierarchy ON. 
Data is well represented in the Gantt : taskActStart etc., all are ok.
 
 
 
 
 
Now, I've switched to "flat" view to be able to see all item ordered by TaskActStart.
The dates are messed up; what the Gantt shows is completely wrong. At first I thought something bad happened with my data, but going back to Hierarchy display put everything back in order. Feewww!
 
The problem seems to be related to the way the Gantt processes TaskActStart and NextTaskID data.

I'm not able to reproduce the issue. Perhaps send me a sample app.
 
Keep in mind though that you are using "summary bars", which automatically move/resize based on sub-items. If you remove the hierarchy, these will change.
 
Alternatives to summary bars, is using column equations, perhaps you can try this.

I'm aware of that, but it has nothing to do with the summary bars. The problematic bars aren't the summary bars.
 
Actually, the strange thing is that if I expand all items and then re-collapse them (to have a flat view), the Gantt suddenly displays everything properly -- I just tried it. And if I do a refresh, everything is crooked again.
 
I'll try to send a DB, if it can help.

If you turn off "Adjustable time delay", is the issue still there ?
 
Certain rules were set up for linked bars and these may need "fine" tuning...

Thanks! I see it's fixed and working well now.
 
I'm wondering if the links behaviour (between tasks) could be treated somewhat differently though. But it's something we can think about for a little while before committing.
 
Instead of having a different task linking/delay  behaviour depending on hiearchy/flat view (talking about the actual display option here) maybe the behaviour could just change depending on if the items appear hierarchically or as TLI, whether we're in true hierarchical view or not (as flat view also allows for hierarchical view). This would likely diminish the potential confusion -- otherwise users might wonder why tasks delay/ink are not always behaving in the same way, without any explanation.
 
Not sure if what I'm trying to explain is clear... It's a bit difficult.
 
another solution to avoid any possible confusion is to at least have a popup or something telling the user that links between tasks aren't treated the same depending on the  view.

 In the next version, I'll change this so it is much clearer.
 
When hierarchy is on, users will be able to select one of 3 behaviors for links :
  1. Visual only
  2. Enforce Finish to Start
  3. Locked (so bars keep their relative positions and will move as a group
When hierarchy is off, the latter 2 options will be greyed out

It seems better. Maybe that's the best way to deal with the "problem". The only thing is that even if the options are greyed out, it might not be clear why other bars  aren't moving together, or why this one could be moved alone, even if it's linked, etc.
 
Maybe hierarchy & flat shouldn' be treated differently? I'm just thinking of the different possibilities. Maybe other Gantt users could chime in.
 
IMO, the most important thing is that users should always be clearly made aware of linked tasks behaviour ; tasks will or will not be moving together (depending on the chosen option).
