Summary: Installed v. 36 (portable) today. Any time I try to edit an HTML note, InfoQube crashes. I can edit MHT notes in Word.

I created several new items yesterday with a html notes attached. After upgrading to v36, I tried to edit them today. First, noted that IQ appeared non-responsive, and observed the browse mode was toggled. I untoggled, and any attempt to edit html note resulted in an immediate crash.

I run on a Win7 machine and Win8, both are 64-bit systems. There is no difference. IQ crashes on both.

I also attempted to create a new database, created a new item, attempted to add a note in the html editor and it crashed immediately.

Comments

Hi,

Sorry to hear you are having an issue with the HTML pane.
  1. You are using the Installable or Portable flavor ?
  2. You can use the HTML pane with version 35 ?

A previously working v0.9.26PreRel35 version (Win 7 PC) stopped working too. I rebooted and it is now fine.

Can you try to reboot and report back if the issue is still there or has vanished ?

Thanks !

Pierre,

Thanks so much for the response and suggestions. Restarting did resolve the issue and I want to add a couple of comments:
  • I am running the portable version on both machines.
  • Rebooting (shut down as opposed to log off/log in) did resolve the issue on the Windows 7 machine.
  • Simply shutting down the Win 8 machine did not work. HOWEVER, forcing a full shutdown (cmd -> shutdown /s /f /t 0) did correct the issue. ( I think this is due to the fast startup feature of Win 8 and I used the instructions from http://www.thewindowsclub.com/force-full-shutdown-fully-reinitialize-wi…)
Thanks again for your work this program.

Who remembers installing Ecco Pro v. 1 from 3 1/2 disks...

I certainly recall installing Ecco in this way! It was a very exciting development for those of us who had previously used Grandview and watched that program being abandoned by Symantec. I still have the original Ecco Pro version 4 box and installation CD. That software was remarkably stable, apparently still runs very well and was equally abandoned by a publisher having less vision and perseverance than is being shown by Pierre with InfoQube.

This is great news !
Some software update I presume, certainly related to IE.

Good tip regarding Windows 8. A couple of days ago, on my tablet PC, I disabled Fast Start and did not see much of a difference in boot time (how often does one boot a PC nowadays anyway...) I wanted to get rid of the Hibernation file and it was the only way to achieve that.

Glad to see another Ecco Pro user using IQ !
