Edit: will update with solution shortly...

I'm not sure what to make of this, out of nowhere half my grids won't open.  I click on a grid, the screen flashes like a grid should open, I see a single item in the HTML pane that I know is from that grid, but the grid doesn't actually open or become visible.

I tried database repair.  Also tried selecting and unselecting "show grid", just in case that would trigger anything.  And of course have closed and reopened. If I create a new grid, it can be opened.

Any suggestions??

Version 80d

If I open a backup file the grids open.  But I'd prefer not to lose work and move to a backup, so if there are any suggestions for fixing this I'm all ears.

Hi David,

Sorry for this issue. Can you send the file over ? If not, I'll quickly add a scrambling function to delete personal information
In the meantime, can you post a screenshot of the top part of the grid (with the menu) ? I'd like to see the grid source, etc

Pierre, I'm not sure that sending this to you is going to do any good because the moment I masked all text using the file you sent me, it also fixed the problem and all grids opened.  Which would suggest that using the text masking feature also rebuilt the database and fixed the issue?  Yet running database repair in 80d didn't fix it?

I am now trying to use the rebuild database function in 80d...if I can get it to work.  Am I supposed to create a new blank database from IQ and then select that when I rebuild?

Most Peculiar. The only thing the code does is to scramble the text and then do a compact database

Perhaps show a screenshot of one problematic grid

You can also try to:
  1. Close the IQ base
  2. Tool > Database > Compact
  3. Select the IQ Base, click Open
Doing a compact with no IQBase loaded can sometimes fix errors that aren't otherwise fixable

"Perhaps show a screenshot of one problematic grid"

Well, since I can't get them to open...not sure what you are asking for here .

Compacting did not fix.  So strange that whatever happened when all text was scrambled fixed the issue.

Can you watch this one minute video and clarify how rebuilding the database is supposed to work?

Repairing the database also always pops up a message asking if I want to "hide all tables"?  Not sure the relevance of that message.

I could be wrong but I think the various compact and rebuild database dialogs need some messages built in to warn people they need to remove passwords first, otherwise they are going to get an error message?

I think I'm about to throw in the towel and revert to an earlier backup.  I'm very lucky I changed my backup settings the other day and dramatically increased the number of days before backups get overwritten.  Seems like IQ defaults should default to a larger number of days and backups IMO?

Thanks

You should be able to see the grid source (top line) no ?
Or they actually open and then immediately close ?
Then a copy of the grid properties with as much sections opened as possible

FYI I have confirmed multiple times that the same file that cannot be fixed with compacting can be fixed with Repair > Mask Personal Data.  Insofar as all grids load after that.

I just uploaded a 1-minute video and sent you a link to it from facebook messaging.

Fixed in v81:
  • Fixed: Showing a view (grid, Calendar, etc) which is already shown but in a very small tab group moved the focus to that view as expected, but the user could not see it. Now, if the group width / height is too small, the view is moved to the largest group
  • Fixed: Tab group size could be reduced to 0, making it impossible to show it (could not grab to resize)
HTH !
