It is easy to tell when the Properties Pane is the active pane - the thin pane header turns a different color (in my case, light orange).  The same is true of the HTML pane.

The grid pane does not have a pane header that turns a different color when it is active.

Is there some kind of visual indication that the Grid Pane is the active pane?

If not, could this be added?  The header right under the tabs could be used for this purpose - the header that shows the current source, filter, and sort.  For me it would be ideal if this header had the same active pane header color as the Properties and HTML panes.   Or the tab itself could be given the active color.

Grids in panes also have the same light orange title bar so you probably mean the Tab workspace. In this case, the only indication is the bold caption. I guess that is not enough

 Pierre,

I'm not seeing a light orange title bar on a grid even when the grid pane is the active pane.

Here is what I'm seeing --

Also, the bold text in the active tab remains bold if I switch to the Properites pane or the HTML pane, so I can't use this to te whether the Grid pane is active.

Yes, the orange doesn't appear for grids in the workspace.
As for the bold text remainingg bold for other panes... I think it's a good thing : when in the main workspace, and when panes are opened in various places, it's a visual reminder of where you were last.
Personally, I'd be lost without it.

The Properties pane and the HTML pane show information on the current item. The current item is not set there but in grids (and other views). So it is by design that one needs a clear indication of which grid is active.

Right now, there are cues as to which item is shown in these panes
  • Bold text when the view is in a tab,
  • Light-orange title bar when the view is in a pane
  • Also, the selected item(s) back color is toned down when not the active grid
I'm open to improving the visual cues if users find it a good idea.

Also, tool bar goes gray when focus moves away from the grid (item color and text color are most noticeable).

Yup, and the dotted black box around the focused item...

Maybe a light orange color for the active tab when the tab workspace is active?   Or an orange border around it?  That would correspond pretty well to the light orange title bar above an active pane.  Or a light orange source bar.

I made the identical request as Jim here a month ago.  FWIW I think that one of the things that is happening is that with all the new layout abilities it's becoming more difficult to tell which area is active (now that we can have so many different areas).

Here is my suggestion, if feasible.  The active area should be one color, whatever that color is (currently orange).  The other areas that are related to a selected item should also be a color (but a different one) or perhaps bold.  Let me explain why this is becoming important.  Now that the new layout allows it, I have (2) active HTML panes.  It works great, but it's now a constant chore to pay attention to which HTML pane is active (so I have to keep looking at HTML pane title), to make sure I am not trying in the incorrect one.

Thanks
