I need to find and edit a subitem under the item "Wood Projects for the Garden".  I find it using the column filter:

Note that the subitems aren't shown as they don't meet the filter criterion (I think there should be an option to display subitems in filter results but that's another issue). (edit: sometimes subitems show and sometimes not)

To access the subitems, I turn off the filter (note that the item is selected):

The item is lost.  The grid has over 3,000 items so scrolling down to find it is a pain.

The workaround is to first hoist the item before turning off the grid but that really shouldn't be necessary, I don't think.

In sum: focus should remain on the selected item when the column filter is turned off.

You probably know that, but just in case I'm misunderstanding something : the filter has an option to only filter the first level, and then other items can be available and be shown if necessary.

Here, I don't need to hoist, 1- just select the item(s) aftering filtering, 2- remove the filter, and it works : the selected item has the focus. Would that solve the problem? The focus is usually conditioned by the focused item, which seems logical. If you Apply a filter but don't select the item, it allows you to go back where you were immediately, if necessary. There are always advantages and drawbacks to every methods.

When removing the column filter, focus remains on the focus item when I try it here...

Can you provide the exact steps to reproduce it, preferably using a sample IQBase (or the new Welcome to IQ one) ?

I thought I did describe the exact steps but I'll see if I can do it more clearly.

1) View a grid with any random item selected
2) Apply the column filter (ctrl-g).
3) Select one of the items in the filter results.
4) Turn off the filter by clicking the "x" in the filter box.
5) The screen refreshes to display all items.

When the screen refreshes to show all items (unfiltered), the item I selected should remain selected and in view so I can continue work on the item I just found.

Instead, when the screen refreshes, the view shifts to the top of the list, and no items are selected (neither the item that I found in the filter list, nor the item that was selected before the filter was applied).

I just re-tried this several times and got the same thing each time.  Maybe I'm doing something wrong without realizing it.

The devil is in the details they say, that is why I ask as much detail as possible...
I was turning off the filter by clicking on the Column filter button on the toolbar

I'll see how to fix this

In v109:
  • Fixed: Grid: Removing a column filter by closing the yellow filter bar at the bottom the grid did not properly scroll the list to show the selected item
